Assistant Store Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as Store Manager in the Manager’s absence
- Generate sales
- Provide excellent customer service and resolve issues involving customer relations
- Assist the Store Manager in the performance of the management functions of: planning, organizing, motivating and controlling
- Assist the Store Manager in directing the operations of the store and activities of employees
- Provide feedback to District Manager and buyers
- Train, develop and counsel employees
- Participate in the processes of recruitment, interviewing, hiring and termination according to company policy
- Oversee and monitor all methods of loss prevention which includes the protection of company assets
- Assist in communicating and enforcing company policies and procedures
- Assist Store Manager in preparing weekly payroll reports
- Ensure compliance of government labor regulations
- Ensure the proper processing and display of merchandise and visual presentation(s)
- Assist the Store Manager in ensuring store presentation is consistent with company standards
- Perform sales and stock duties
- Perform other various duties relating to the retail function as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma and some college or trade school
- Approximately one to two years of retail management experience
- Excellent sales, communication, interpersonal and follow-through skills
- Professional demeanor
- Knowledge of computerized retail systems
- Knowledge and ability to operate basic computer software applications such as Microsoft word, excel and outlook for e-mail
DESCRIPTION
This position requires the training, development, and counseling of employees. Candidate must be prepared to communicate and enforce company policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include aiding the store manager preparing weekly budgetary reports, creating extraordinary sales, and maintaining outstanding visual store presentation.
TASKS:

- Help set the tone for the store and lead by example
- Resolve customer problems
- Participate in the processes of recruitment, interviewing and training of employees
- Participate in the hiring and termination of employees when necessary
- Train and develop employees
- Motivate and counsel employees
- Prepare and conduct employee evaluations
- Prepare and issue disciplinary warnings when necessary
- Resolve employee relations problems
- Communicate with staff
- Delegate work assignments and provide follow-up
- Visit local competition to evaluate competitors merchandise, visual presentation and operations
- Provide feedback to District Manager and/or buyers regarding company merchandise, customer and employee comments/suggestions and visits to competitors
- Implement procedural changes
- Merchandise the store (floor moves, wall moves, window displays, special promotional displays) in accordance with company standards
- Approve various transactions
- Oversee the receipt and processing of merchandise
- Ensure completion of the transfer of merchandise in/out of the store
- Process goods received through computer system
- Ensure completion of price changes
- Conduct daily walk thru
- Review and communicate daily e-mail and voice mail
- Monitor inventory levels on a daily basis
- Ensure compliance of loss prevention policies and procedures
- Open and close the store when necessary
- Maintain control of store
- Answer and respond to telephone inquiries
- Complete new-hire paperwork and forward to Human Resources on a timely basis
- Prepare weekly schedules in compliance with payroll budget
- Prepare and submit weekly payroll hours minus salaried employees
- Submit corrected punch in/out reports on a timely basis
- Conduct store meetings when necessary
- Ensure compliance of government labor laws and regulations
- Monitor store appearance and effectively use store equipment such as ladders, vacuums and cleaning products when necessary
- Other various duties as assigned by management
DEMANDS OF THE POSITION AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Under state labor guidelines a salaried employee is classified as a company executive, therefore he/she will not be paid overtime hours or additional days if any.
- Set hours for a salaried employee are a lso left to the soul discretion of the employer; with that in mind Jimmy Jazz requires that a salaried employee work a minimum of 48 plus hours per week excluding breaks during non peak periods. Expect to increase during peak periods
- Report to work 30 minutes before opening and stay 30 minutes after closing and whenever necessary
- Store Managers are required to work generally every Saturday and/or Sunday
- Maintain shrink within acceptable guidelines
- Limited travel is required when necessary
