There are three hip-hoppers bubbling right underneath the surface of the mainstream and determined to breakthrough and those three artists include Panama, David E. Beats and WordSpit. What connects them is passion and what separates them is their own unique originality and talent. Panama is perhaps best known as the street kid from HBO's acclaimed series, "The Wire." Lately he has been setting the internet ablaze with his mixtapes and features on all the major hip-hop sites. David E. Beats has built buzz through his lively performances and WordSpit has been steadily building devoted followers with the release of his album, The Coolest BBoi Stance and recent McDonald's campaign. JimmyJazz.com hit the scene with all three artists and got the juice on several interesting facts about each hip-hopper including passing on producing for Wale to sacrificing eventuating for family.
What you should know about Panama:
He's an actor at heart:
Acting is still my main passion and the foundation of my career. It has given me a voice to be heard musically and that has been driving faster for me.
He was acting from experience in HBO's "The Wire" as a street kid:
As an adolescent I was part of multiple childish gangs and was the look out for drug dealers. My little brother and sisters need stuff for school, the heat was broken and mom was working multiple jobs. I come from a poverty stricken country and my family wakes up every morning thinking about what to eat for breakfast. So to get out of that situation I was forced to do certain things. Now that we are more stable everything is a go.
He does it all for his family:
My father came from nothing and has been through it all. Now that he slowed down and can't provide for the family-everyone from my great grandmother to my cousin's daughters-I have to pick that up. I'm the only one in a profession that can land the kind of money that my pops once had. It keeps me focused, modest and aware of the world. This is bigger than me.
What you should know about David E. Beats:
He passed on the chance to produce for fellow Washington, D.C. artist Wale:
In 2006 or 2007 my cousin met Wale and he told me he was looking for beats since I was producing for local artists. Wale was expecting some beats from me and I was like forget it he won't blow up. I never followed through with it and months later he came out with "Nike Boots," and blew up. At the time I didn't take myself seriously and I didn't see the bigger picture.
He plays a mean guitar:
I sat down for a full year and practiced between 4 and 6 hours a day and taught myself how to play. Then I hung out with guitarists which makes you better to observe and absorb their style. When I play live now I always try something new to see how crazy I can make my sound.
He knows sacrifice:
I dropped out of college and moved to New York City to produce for an artist. The artist turned out to be a pretender and wasn't who he said he was in the music industry. So I had to put my money up, get a bull**** job, find my own place and equipment and do so much to get myself together to start being my own artist. I discovered that I am extremely persistent and passionate.
What you should know about WordSpit:
He waits for no one:
Before I started going to open mic showcases, I would beg my friends to come with me or else I wouldn't take part in the event. After my close friends repeatedly let me down, I performed at these events by myself. It made me realize you have to work towards accomplishing your goal and let nothing stop you.
He knows the streets of Brooklyn:
It wasn't my initial gang affiliation that got me in trouble, but my affiliation with others that lead me astray sometimes. In life, you learn from your mistakes. It taught how to become an individual instead of following the pack.
He stays motivated thanks to one special memory:
A week before my cousin, Black died, he told me "Spit forget about everybody who doubts you, just do what you do." That's where I draw some of my motivation from when I'm down.

By Souleo. Few singers can blow like R&B star, Lil' Mo and luckily for fans she is set to return this year with a reminder of her talent that has delivered past hits such as "Superwoman Pt. II," and "4ever." Her new album entitled Tattoos & Roses: The Rebellion Against My Pain, is her journey of self-reflection and commitment to living a new drama free life. JimmyJazz.com caught up with the songbird to find out why she's been laying low, how her new marriage has reinvigorated her passion, living drama free, the status of her relationship with Ja Rule and more.
On why she's been out of the spotlight:
I was getting my business and life in order for the past seven years. I had another baby and remarried. I had to take a break and get refocused with my ministry. This is the right time for everything. This time is destined and ordained for me.
On the meaning and message of her album title:
We are rebelling against excuses, abuses and anything meant to destroy you. If it's not your destiny and not meant to build you up it can't stay. You can't entertain it no more. If you don't change you'll be stuck in that position and you will die spiritual, mentally and emotionally.
On learning to watch those around her:
Me and my husband spoke today about how once you make it everybody thinks you can take them along. You have to be careful who you have around 'cause half the stuff that leaks out is from people closest to you. They try to tear you down 'cause they are not in that position. I had a lot of those kinds of people around me.
On the status of her relationship with Ja Rule following the lawsuit:
I haven't spoken to him since then. We realized his situation wasn't as lucrative as everybody thought. People put on this show to think they're balling and flying in jets. We never verbally addressed it but I got a message from a friend of mine that Ja Rule realizes it didn't have to get that way. I heard that he was honestly apologetic. I can't do nothing but respect that and wish him peace in life. I'm pretty much over it.
On taking the blame for her trials and tribulations throughout life:
I would say that anything that has happened to me I have allowed. I could have walked away from it but curiosity killed the cat and that's my fault. Being too down to earth can cost you but it won't cost me no more.
On the joy of her new marriage:
It's going great. Every marriage has its ins and outs, ups and downs but from my experience I now know how to work through them. He taught me a lot and to be myself. I told him I don't want to be Lil' Mo no more since it's not worth the stuff you have to go through. He told me to get up from being lazy and said this is my time. He is my biggest support system. Between him, my mom and dad they won't let nothing get through the cracks. I am truly happy now with everything I am going through.

By Souleo. Texas rapper Paul Wall is back and not only is he focused on the music with his upcoming album, Heart of a Champion, but he's also focused on taking his business ventures to the next level. As an entrepreneur Paul is perhaps most famous for helping to catapult grills-metal jewelry for teeth-into a national phenomenon with his company, Grills by Paul Wall. Since the height of that national trend it's safe to say that grills are no longer the focus of hip-hop bling and they've even gotten a bad rap lately due to Lil' Wayne's dental surgery for his grills. JimmyJazz.com got all up in Paul's grill to get his thoughts about the one-time bling phenomena, whether or not grills are still safe and his latest business venture.
On why grills fell off the national style map:
"It got over saturated and started getting corny for some people but that happens with all national trends. It's still a hood trend and was around before me and will be around long after me."
On Lil' Wayne's grills and the safety of the bling:
"Lil' Wayne's from the old school and had grills since he was 11 years old so he did it the old school way. Back in the day we used to only do the permanent kind and make the gold for the dentist as jewelry. So when we do them now we never recommend getting them in permanently. When that happens they file the teeth down and it brings up more worries. Now we recommend the removable kind to keep teeth clean and clean the grills."
On his latest business venture:
"Being that I have so many tattoos my dad found www.tattoodetox.com. When you get tattoos sometimes the ink has different chemicals that can make you sick or affect your body and you won't know it. So we found this thing to detox you from chemicals in the ink and we sell it on our website."

Aries, Leo and Sagittarius:
You're going to feel a little left of center this week but that's ok. If your friends throw a party and forget to invite you just call them up the next day and let them know they're invited to a party in your pants! Don't take it personal when you're left out of the fun activities and major opportunities this week. Just take it as a moment to get even fiercer for next week and throw it in everyone's face like a true diva/divo.
Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo:
This is the week to turn the other cheek and by cheek I mean butt cheek. You need to turn those things up, down, side to side, inside out and all around. This is your week to work out like an anorexic Hollywood actress going psycho after eating a bean! So get busy on looking great 'cause its lights, camera and action for you by the end of this week as your social calendar fills up.
Libra, Aquarius and Gemini:
Careful my child this week: don't confuse temptation for an opportunity you should take advantage of. Before you are tempted to do something disastrous think of the consequences. To help you out here's a list of scenarios:
Temptation: Being too horny and having sex with someone you're not really attracted to.
Consequence: An unattractive child you're stuck with for life.
Temptation: Stealing from work.
Consequence: Ending up on the unemployment line next to the cast of "Flavor of Love," season one.
Temptation: Smacking someone who pisses you off
Consequence: Who cares? Smack a heffa up if they're hating!
Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces:
Sometimes it's best not to say anything at all and those times include: right after eating a garlic meal, throwing up or giving a blowjob. Other times include when you just don't know what the hell you're talking about. This week is one of those weeks when you don't want to get caught out there looking like a fool. So zip it, listen and learn. It'll give you plenty of things to talk about the week after. Let's just hope you have someone willing to listen.

By Souleo. Yesterday, Sirius radio personality Angela Yee gave us her take on the gossip phenomenon. She returns today to give us her expert advice on how to handle gossip in everyday life from how to avoid to being the subject of rumors to dealing with gossiping family members.
On how to avoid being the subject of gossip:
1. Try to not do anything stupid like don't get drunk and pass out at the club.
2. Be careful who you're around and know who is a good friend or not. I go out with people and if I don't know them well I don't say too much about anything and my guard is up, but with my friends I can go buckwild.
3. You should never argue on Twitter or Facebook. It's a big no-no. People will try to provoke you to do something but don't. The best thing is to ignore it because the more you feed into it the more attention you give to it.
How to handle gossip in the workplace:
1. Do not participate in gossip in the workplace; it always comes back to you. If I don't like someone instead of me saying I can't stand so and so I just say I don't know that person well and I keep it moving.
2. It is good to listen to gossip 'because knowledge is important for your own personal information. That's how I know everything I know.
How to handle family gossip:
I know my family all talks about each other. In this case it's more important to listen and try not to be judgmental about people.

By Souleo. Artists come and go but few are soul survivors. Leela James intends on being one of those few. After the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, A Change Is Gonna Come Leela has experienced the difficult business side of music, switched labels from Warner Brothers to Stax Records; all the while touring and releasing a sophomore album of covers, Let's Do It Again. She now returns with the May 25th release of her new album entitled, My Soul.
For Leela focusing on the album meant getting her business and finances in order after she realized funds were being stolen from her by those within her team.
"People I've trusted took from me certain things and people took money. So you definitely have to watch all your surroundings and the ones you think you can trust watch them as well," she advises.
The experience led Leela to make some positive changes in order to move forward with her career.
"I made some business changes since the debut. I changed my management. I feel like the business has always been half music and half bad business so you got to take control 'cause this is your livelihood."
Leela is confidently moving forward wiser and stronger than ever before as evidenced on her new single, "Tell Me You Love Me." While the single has fans grooving the music video has them talking about rumors that Leela received a nose job; but Leela laughs off the gossip.
"Uh, I just say my nose is my nose. I don't know where people get it. I hear so much and I laugh that's all I can say. I didn't even know that was out there but I laugh. My nose is my nose," she said.
What has certainly changed is Leela's sexier but still classy image this time around, which is just another dimension of her multifaceted soul.
"I just think it's a different side than what people have seen. It's always been there just not out there. I do what I feel like and I don't care what people got to say so that's that."

By Souleo. We live in an age where gossip has saturated every facet of pop culture. The result is a massive global obsession with the private lives of celebrities and reality stars that has left society with a seemingly unquenchable thirst for rumors and scandal. For Angela Yee, the Sirius/XM Radio personality of "The Morning After," and 'Lip Service," it's a reality that has left her with growing concerns about the direction of society.
"I think that's part of what makes society right now messed up. People like to film fights or someone mentally ill on the subway going crazy. People think it's funny and people are desensitized to it [gossip]," she said.
Angela notes that the world's fascination with gossip is so prevalent now because of the virtually unlimited access we have to the lives of celebrities.
"I think a lot of it has to do with the internet and accessibility to people's lives. Now everything is so instantaneous and with reality shows we look into people's lives. These people are not celebrities until they get on a television show. So people care about everything about a person due to the reality shows and the technology."
Angela, who always makes sure to give her listeners something to talk about as she fearlessly and hilariously interviews celebrities on all the hot issues, makes it a point to try and balance her gossip reporting with responsibility. Besides her winning personality it's one of the features that helps separate her from most gossip reporters and bloggers.
"I try to be responsible when it comes to reporting. I may know something about one's personal life off the record but I won't expose people. If it's something that is already being talked about and on different sites then it's safe to say I can talk about that but I always state alleged until proven otherwise."
It's a delicate balance between gossiping with class and not but Angela seems to have mastered the art as her witty banter keeps listeners coming back for more.

Aries, Leo and Sagittarius:
Stop trying to control everything in your life, especially your emotions. You can't help but be jealous of someone who you feel looks better than you, angry at someone who disrespects you or attracted to someone you know is no good for you. There's only one way to get rid of these negative feelings and that's to smack the trick next to you for trying to look hotter. I'm kidding! But for real just own up to your emotions and let them go. Trust me you'll never feel so good about being this bad.
Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo:
Your nerves are jitterier than ever this week. You're more nervous than a Catholic priest next to a choir boy in a quiet confession booth. Oooooohh chile! But it's best you get a grip and act like you got some sense because you're going to need all your marbles to really shine in social circles this week. Less nerves and more smiles. You never know if that one face you smile at might be the one who ends up signing your check soon. So cheese it up!
Libra, Aquarius and Gemini:
Use this week to explore your options and see what's out there for you. Get your swirl on if you have to. Bungee jump if ya wanna. Whatever you do just make sure it's something fun and new. You'll discover a side of yourself you never knew existed, 'cause face it honey you've been living quite the boring life. Now spice it up and live a little!
Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces:
You can get anything you want this week 'cause baby you got that magic. You're positively radiating and glowing and it ain't the Botox. It's your all-natural effervescence. So bask in the glory and sunshine of your soul this week 'cause honey next week you're gonna come down from a high bad like a crackie going cold turkey. Don't say I ain't warn ya!

By Souleo. Yesterday, we introduced you to best-selling author, Terrance Dean’s new weekly advice column on hellobeautiful.com, “Straight, from your Gay Best Friend.” Now he is back to share with us the juiciest advice he has been given about sex, relationships, work and living the fabulous life. After all even an expert needs someone to run to.
On where he goes for advice:
I have a spiritual mother and many spiritual people who are mentors and have helped me such as Iyanla Vanzant and her husband, Adeyemi Bandele. I know when to cleanse and how to go to that place where I can regroup and get to where I'm supposed to be.
On the best advice he’s been given about sex:
People don’t communicate their needs and wants and how they need it. So if you can’t communicate that before sex then know it is just sex. It’s not love, it doesn’t mean I like you or anything else. Now if after sex you discuss all that then sex can be even greater to the tenth power.
On the best advice he’s been given about relationships:
I was in love with this guy and it became very volatile emotionally and physically abusive and we broke up twice. My spiritual godmother told me that I’ve done that already and why in the next relationship don’t I look for someone from a loving background. We all go to what’s familiar for us with people who come from the same drama and experiences and that’s not always healthy.
On the best advice he’s been given about work:
My friends hate me for this but if you don’t like your job: quit. I don’t have time for complaints. That wears me out to no end.
On the best advice he’s been given about living the fabulous life:
Have fun and enjoy each and every moment. If you don't then you miss out on the possibilities. Also surround yourself with those living the life. If you hang with broke people you end up being broke too.

By Souleo. In his ESSENCE Magazine best-selling book, Hiding In Hip Hop: On the Down Low in the Entertainment Industry - from Music to Hollywood author, speaker and educator Terrance Dean addressed hip-hop’s last taboo: homosexuality. In the process he forced the masses to face the truth about the deep secrets of a prominent gay sub-culture within not only the entertainment community, but within the larger urban community.
For the once closeted author the aftermath of the book’s release and subsequent success led to a newfound sense of freedom and personal acceptance.
“It’s opened the possibilities for me to share parts of my life. I don’t have to be afraid and hide who I am any longer. It’s out there and I know that God loves me—I’ve learned that,” he said.
With such confidence, Terrance has taken to sharing his insights about relationships, sex and careers in his new weekly advice column on hellobeautiful.com, “Straight, from your Gay Best Friend.” The column is targeted to women as Terrance notes that many need a better understanding of the male perspective.
“Many women ask me about certain sexual requests from their men and if that means that he is gay. So I wanted to set the record straight because I feel there’s misinformation about sex and sexuality,” he said.
One of those main areas of misguidance he wants to address with women is their behavior in relationships.
“I think one of the most common things they let men get away with is not def ining the relationship. Many women stay with men who won’t label the relationship or they are in relationships with men over 5 or 10 years and it’s not going anywhere. I think the gay community makes some of those same mistakes. We all need to learn to let go and move on,” he said.
Since its debut last month the column has been a hit and Terrance knows it has much to do with the sense of trust between gay men and women as seen in shows like “Will & Grace,” and in the Dwight Eubanks character on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
“For many women it’s hard to be friends with heterosexuals because while you have your head on his shoulder he may be wondering if you two are gonna hit it later on. So women know a gay man has no interest in them but is still able to speak on how a man thinks. So a gay man is truly a friend with no ulterior motive and it works vice versa too.”
While his weekly column comforts his readers Terrance is also hard at work on two new books including the fall release of, Straight, From Your Gay Best Friend - Who Else Is Going To Tell You The Truth About Work, Relationships, and Having a Fabulous Life! Before that fans can check out the anthology, Visible Lives: Three Stories in Tribute to E. Lynn Harris which also features novellas by James Earl Hardy and Stanley Bennet. The book is in honor of Terrance’s dear friend and mentor, New York Times best-selling author, the late E. Lynn Harris.
Be sure to check out tomorrow’s part two with Terrance where he shares the juiciest advice he’s received about sex, relationships and work.
