The Look of Love Part Two: Valentine’s Day Looks
February 8, 2010 / Posted in Beauty / Interviews / Style

By Souleo. Last week, we featured the style and dating tips from noted journalist/relationship expert, Anslem Samuel of NakedWishSocksOn.com. Now we are back for part two. Anslem has perused the Jimmy Jazz catalog to select some sexy and classy outfits for your Valentine's Day date. So if you don't want your date turned into a disaster because of the wrong attire then read on to make this Valentine's Day a success from head to toe.

MEN'S Valentine's Day LOOK ONE

Sean John - Storm Flap Button Up
Parish - Life Vest Jeans
Polo Footwear - Ranger Boot

I picked this one because it's a button-up shirt and simple. Bright colors like red can be very distracting and you want the attention on you. The jeans have a nice wash. There is some personality there with the crinkled and distressed effect. The Polo Ranger boots are just classic.

MEN'S Valentine's Day LOOK TWO

Rocawear - Hydrogen Sweatshirt
Levis - 514 Slim Jeans
Adidas - Stan Smith Two Sneakers

It's classy but more of a casual look. The top is a conversation piece for the first date. This works on a more activities oriented date for bowling or playing pool. Also, if you're not into slacks or pants then black jeans helps you get away with it so no one knows it's only jeans.

WOMEN's Valentine's Day LOOK ONE

Coogi - Sateen Dress
Dereon - Fleur Skinny Jeans
Apple Bottoms - Beana Boot

It's sophisticated and sexy without going over-the-top and showing too much of your flesh. The high-waisted belt accentuates the waist and assets. Personally I'm not into logos but this logo is more of an accessory. The jeans are a great wash and show off the figure, while the boot has great details for a complete look.

WOMEN'S Valentine's Day LOOK TWO

Apple Bottoms - Pearl Necklace Top
Apple Bottoms - Studded Skinny Jeans
Bucco - Western Boot

The top goes in a more flesh category. You can tone the top down with a sweater top but in the summer time this works. Overall it's a bit of a sexier look but it's still subtle enough to keep your date wanting more.

JizzleJazzle's Horoscope Feb 5 - Feb 12 2010
February 5, 2010 / Posted in Horoscope

Aries, Leo and Sagittarius:
It’s time to get your Martha Stewart on and I’m not talking jail time.  I’m talking about creating a space of pleasure and relaxation where you can unwind.  So get domestic and add some new curtains to that dreary room, clean up that bathroom with some new bright fresh paint and take the time to create a delicious big ‘ole meal.  Just don’t get mad at me if ya gain about ten pounds afterward!

Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo:
Sometimes you just want to say, “Ho, have a seat!”  And this week you might want to heed that piece of advice.  Now is not the time to be tooting your own horn and trying to get recognition.  It’s best if you lay low this week and eat some humble pie.  Just do what you do and let the laws of nature direct the course.

Libra, Aquarius and Gemini:
Last week I told you to embrace your inner wild child and this week ain’t that much different.  The only change is that wild things are happening to you now.  Expect the unexpected with serendipitous events, little misadventures and some recklessness.  Just don’t get too wild, end up making a sex tape and having it float around the workplace.

Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces:
It’s time to stand up on your own two.  Stop letting others mistreat you in your relationships.  You’re bound to feel hurt, overwhelmed and abused this week from those closest to you so do something about it.  Tell your friends to chill, tell your lover to shut the hell up, tell your kids to go have a damn seat somewhere and tell yourself to get a grip!  It’s your life and don’t forget that you run this ish!

I'm JizzleJazzle and remember don't be good, be fabulous!

The Look of Love Part One: Style & Dating Tips
February 4, 2010 / Posted in Beauty / Interviews

By Souleo. Certain people have the look of love: bedroom eyes, seemingly effortless style that accentuates their body and a confidence in their walk that attracts potential mates wherever they go.  Others don't have this look and the fact is that most of us can use some style tips when it comes to dating.  So in anticipation of Valentine's Day JimmyJazz teamed up with veteran music/entertainment journalist and relationship expert, Anslem Samuel to get some insight on how to dress for love.

In addition to writing for XXL, Essence, Vibe, King and more he is the 2009 Black Weblog Award winning founder/blogger of the popular sex and relationship site, NakedWithSocksOn.com.  On the site Anslem covers everything including cheating and masturbation to his hugely popular Wet Wednesday's erotica stories.  Read on below for part one of the look of love interview where Anslem discusses the turn-offs of "panty waste," why guys need to upgrade their style game, how to tell your mate to switch up their style, dressing tips for that ever important first date and more.

On the fashion turn-offs for men:

One thing for sure is panty waste.  This is when women wear jeans and a short shirt with their panty and thongs hanging out.  That's not sexy at all even though you might look.

On the fashion turn-offs for women:

It's a matter of being too casual.  Women get dressed up for a date and for the guy to show up in a white T-shirt and baggy jeans is gonna be a turn-off.  If she is putting her best foot forward you have to as well.

On how to and how not to dress on a first date:

It's a matter of being yourself.  If you're a fashionista show your style but don't go over-the-top.  Some women go too sexy.  There's a balance between the two.  So having cleavage too out isn't advised if you want him to know you and not your body.  For guys a nice pair of jeans and a button up shirt tucked in or out works.

On how to address your mate's lack of style:

It's touchy but ideally you upgrade each other and learn things.  If you're watching TV or passing someone you can tell them you think that outfit would be sexy on them.  That way you make the suggestion a compliment as opposed to telling them what to buy or that you hate what they wear.  It's about being positive.

On his own dating fashion mistakes:

In college a girlfriend and I were having our anniversary.  At the time I didn't dress up.  All I wore was baggy jeans and T-shirts.  So it's the middle of summer and I threw on Sean John pants and his short sleeve sweater 'cause she said wear something nice.  I was so hot and uncomfortable the entire time.  It was a mess.

On when fashion is a deal breaker:

Early on in the relationship there's not that much commitment so little petty things can turn you off.  But if you been with them for years that's petty to break-up over clothing.  Now if the fashion is indicative of negative lifestyle choices then I can understand.  But at the end of the day you're there for the person not what they wear.

Parish New Arrivals for Men
February 2, 2010 / Posted in Style

By Edwin STATS Houghton. Fashionistas have been flipping the rugged functionality of work gear and army surplus into a more personal statement at least since Bob Marley ran the set. These new men's shirts from Parish update that classic look by combining it with the easy comfort of athletic gear and eye-grabbing oversized graphics for the best of all worlds.

For instance, the Sail Stripe Crest Button Up pairs work-shirt toughness with aristocratic design on the crest for the ultimate crew shirt. The white on navy Striped Woven Button Up achieves the boldness of a warm-up jacket for a shirt strong enough to be your first line of defense, while the fresh and clean lines of the White Blueprint Woven Button Up is closer to the crispness of a dress uniform - perfect under a blazer or a bomber.

All bear the trademark Parish motto: Unity is Strength, a statement anyone can get behind. And with their balance of functional details and originality, these pieces won't go out of style until all wars cease.

J*Davey’s Musical Sexpression
February 2, 2010 / Posted in Music

By Souleo. When you put their records on you just might get turned on and the electronic soul, dance, hip-hop whatever you want to call 'em, L.A. based duo, J*Davey, wouldn't have it any other way.  With one listen to any of their records and it becomes apparent that while other acts use sex as a marketing gimmick this duo, made up of female vocalist Jack Davey and producer Brook D'Leau, uses it as a tool of artistic empowerment to push the limits of gender and sexuality.

"As a woman it's always empowering to be able to talk about sex in a way that isn't degrading to my femininity.  It's saying I'm a human being like everyone else.  It's a way to celebrate the power of the p**** but it's also showing that I know how to use it.  It's not a misuse of it.  I always try to use words that other females aren't using and paint a picture that other artists aren't painting," said Jack.

J*Davey

For Brook the experience is just as liberating since he is able to step outside of the conventional role of men in society and explore his feminine side.

"From a male perspective it's interesting because often for males it's a very macho approach to sex where the male has to be dominant.  I think it's more intriguing to women when a guy doesn't force his sex on you.  So we like to ruffle feathers," he said.

When it comes to identifying their own sense of sexuality the duo refreshingly does not evade the question like many artists.  They admit that while they both prefer the opposite sex they are open to same sex partners.

"I consider myself straight but you never know like if the right male walks into my life you never know.  We leave that door open and it's whatever," Brook said.

In the end, besides making great music for listeners to groove to J*Davey just wants their followers to have the best sex of their lives by loving themselves first.

"I would say the point of sex is to express yourself with your body and to enjoy it.  You need to be comfortable with who you are and your body.  If you're searching for a better sex life work on yourself and the good sex will come," Jack advised.

In anticipation of their Warner Brothers Records summer debut album they are providing foreplay with the release of three free EP's, with the first one entitled Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistapes: http://jdavey.bandcamp.com/

JizzleJazzle's Horoscope Jan 19 - Feb 4 2010
January 29, 2010 / Posted in Horoscope

I'm JizzleJazzle and I'm your new weekly horoscope reporter.  To tell you a little bit about myself, I live in an abandoned old house full of haunted spirits, altars, with a brewing pot for special sacrifices and a magic ball that I use to read your future.  So you know I'm legit.

Actually, that couldn't be further from the truth.  I'm just a palm reader from Times Square that these folks at JimmyJazz.com decided to make an honorable person of with a real gig.  But I do know my stuff so read on.

Aries, Leo and Sagittarius:

You've got a big head-no, not that head.   I'm talking about the top one honey and it's full of imagination and a vision that is bound to bring you happiness and increased wealth.  You're a creative being so let the creative juices flow and remember when you make the bucks send JizzleJazzle a percentage.  Cash only 'cause I don't know who you be!

Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo:

Hold on for dear life!  There's a storm-a-coming but it's all in your mind (that way you won't mess up that new weave).  Anywho, you're not gonna like what I'm about to say but this week is gonna be a doozy.  You'll feel a sense of self-doubt and discouragement but know that this too shall pass.  After all if Mariah Carey can re-release her latest underperforming album and still have hope then baby you better have some too!

Libra, Aquarius and Gemini:

Babyyyyy, this week you are really feeling yourself.  You're having a need for physical thrills and your energy and reflexes are looking real good.  So put all that energy to good use.  Buy a sex toy and burn that plastic pleasure stick or lips!

Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces:

This week is the time to pay off those debts 'cause they are surely gonna be resurfacing.  So instead of taking that $100 and buying something foolish you better pay them bills before they cut off your lights and heat.  It's a recession so manage your finds wisely.  These streets ain't paved with gold unless you're a streetwalker, that is.

I'm JizzleJazzle and remember the don't be good, be fabulous!

DJ Commish’s Celebrity Party Tales
January 28, 2010 / Posted in Gossip / Music

By Souleo. In the DJ realm there is only one "commander-in-chief" and that is NYC's own, DJ CommishDJ Commish has worked with some of the biggest artists and corporations in the industry including Jay Z, BET, VIBE, AOL, the NBA and the NFL.  With his exclusive access to the stars you can bet that DJ Commish has some interesting tales to share on the celebrity party scene.

Some of the observations DJ Commish makes involves the party habits of the stars.  The most interesting habit comes from, Lil' Kim for her super late appearances.

"During the last two years of my New Year's parties she likes to come in at four in the morning.  Normally at four people are completely wasted and ready to go home but she is juts getting to the party and wanting to get it started," he said.

When the party does start, DJ Commish knows to expect the unexpected.  One unexpected occurrence involved Ray J and a flashing episode in the men's bathroom.

"I took a break from DJ'ing a party to go to the bathroom and Ray J followed right behind me.  So we're using the bathroom and talking about his album and the party.  Then some chick comes up between the two stalls and flashes him.  He apologized to me and was like this happens all the time.  Later when he came up to the DJ booth some other chicks came up and were wilding out too," he recalled.

DJ COMMISH

Aside from the fun tales DJ Commish even has experience being caught in the crossfire of hip-hop heat, most notably the 50 Cent vs. Ja Rule vs. Fat Joe beef.

"I did a G-Unit barbecue 4 or 5 years ago and I was not allowed to play Ja Rule or Fat Joe.  The funny thing is it didn't come from the G-Unit camp at all but it came from the company working with G-Unit for the site.  50 Cent wasn't even there.  Olivia, Young Buck and others were there but they didn't even care.  They were there chilling so that was crazy," he said.

DJ Commish's craziest experience comes from outside the celebrity world with a near riot that almost landed him in jail.

"There was one night in Pittsburgh when I played Crime Mob's "Knuck if you Buck."  I didn't hear the record but five or six people requested it at the club so I played it.  There was a part where the girl starts her verse and once she started it was a riot in the club.  Police came in and shut the whole thing down.  They tried to arrest me for inciting a riot.  I had no idea and that happens to DJ's with certain records," he said.

It's these colorful experiences and memories that make it all worthwhile for DJ Commish and why he continues to keep on spinning at all the hot parties and on Music Choice's Mix-tape Network.

Soulja Boy and Ja-Bar Plan Takeover
January 28, 2010 / Posted in

By Souleo. World meet: Ja-Bar, the protégé to pop sensation Soulja BoyJa-Bar is the first artist to be released on Soulja Boy's SOD Money Gang label.  The 19 year-old Atlanta hip-hopper is currently riding high on the waves of his fast-rising single, "Daze," ft. Soulja Boy from his spring untitled release.

Ja-Bar who honed his skills opening for Soulja Boy on his tour for two years noted that the two have a deep connection forged by their mutual love for hard work and determination to succeed.

"We both work hard so that's one of the reasons he likes me so much and kept me around.  I'm always in the studio or on the computer and so is he.  We are both go-getters," Ja-Bar said.

With that go-getter mentality Soulja Boy is setting Ja-Bar up for the big time, but as Soulja's experience shows the big time is not without its challenges.  Soulja Boy who has faced beef with Ice-T, made controversial Twitter rants and been a gossip target has prepared Ja-Bar for the industry's challenges.

"I think controversy and hate you got to handle that yourself.  You can't let others tell you what you can't do.  People always said I wouldn't make it but now I have hits.  So never listen to what people tell you," he said.

Ja-Bar

Ja-Bar remembers one particular night when Soulja Boy's support inspired him to keep going until his dreams come true.

"One year ago in the club at Grammy Party there was Paris Hilton, Jimmy Iovine and TimbalandSoulja Boy told me, 'One day all these people gonna know you and be here to see you and all this will be yours, but it takes hard work and dedication.'  So I know it's not a game and it's real business," he recalled.

With that understanding the two are focused on taking over the industry and giving other deriving artists a chance to shine.

"I'm gonna put out different talent and show the world all the different styles we got.  Ja-Bar wants to get into movies and his own label too.  We trying to be icons in the music industry," Soulja Boy said.

With their common goals, industry insight and sense of brotherhood, it seems that there are no heights these two won't be able to reach.

Bertell Goes from Homeless to Hollywood
January 25, 2010 / Posted in

By Souleo. There's a saying: go hard or go home.  It's an old motto that defines the journey of rising R&B artist, Bertell (yes, that's his birth name).  Bertell's path has taken him from being homeless to being the protégé of A-list producer/writer Bryan Michael Cox (Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Usher) and Capitol Records' newest priority.  Bertell spoke with JimmyJazz to give us the exclusive rundown on his story of beating the odds.

Unlike many Bertell's experience with homelessness was a choice; one borne out of a need to prove to himself that he could succeed doing things the right way.

"It was pretty much by choice.  I was in a situation where I was kind of out in the streets doing things the wrong way.  I cut loose from everything wrong that was getting the money for me.  I figured out that it ain't that easy to get money the right way.  When I figured that out I didn't want to run back to my mother's house.  I didn't want to be a burden on anybody," he said.

BERTELL

While he lived out of his car and slept wherever he could lay his head, Bertell soon discovered that to survive he would have to go hard and that's when he developed his grind.

"I was a real hustler.  I would sell you some socks.  I would sell you a t-shirt.  My mother always used to tell me 'You don't have no kids and no responsibility so you don't have no excuse.'  So for me I always used to wake up like there was no excuse so I gotta figure it out," he said.

Bertell's hustling soon paid off resulting in heavy mixtape sales and a chance meeting with Bryan Michael Cox.  Together the two are working on the final touches to Bertell's forthcoming album, Going Hard.  As the title suggests no matter what he is singing about, it's the message of perseverance that stays with Bertell the most from his homeless experience.

"I found out that I was driven and that I wasn't a quitter. That was the biggest thing I found out about myself.  Anybody that comes to me is going to see the same thing."

Celebrities Bowl for Peace
January 22, 2010 / Posted in

By Souleo. In bowling you can get a gutter ball, a spare or strike out.  On Tuesday night some of the industry's notables came down to Harlem Lanes to strike out violence as part of New York City's Peaceweek, a week long awareness event inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of non-violence.  The event was produced by I Love My LIFE Village & Man Up! Inc. and those in attendance included Russell Simmons, Hot 97 radio personality Angie Martinez, Cheryl "Salt" James, Ja Rule, BET's Rocsi of "106 & Park," Alesha Renee and more.

Bowling

It was a night of fun, food and drinks as well as serious conversations about how to promote non-violence.  Alesha noted that there is a serious need to strengthen communication to ensure more peace.

"I think communication has to be better.  In the community there are different cultures, ages, sexism and racism.  There are so many isms so we need to come together and intelligently express issues, needs and wants.  If we do this we can break down barriers," she said.

For Rocsi it all starts with listening and understanding that we are all human and connected to each other.

"People don't listen to each other and they need to heed the word.  We need to realize that we are only killing ourselves in the long run.  We all have so much to look forward to in this life so we really need to listen," she said.

Ja Rule who is finishing his new album and several film projects believes that the generation gap is partly to blame for the lack of peace.

"It's crazy but we got to find a way to create some bridge between old and young folks to share ideas and perspectives to keep the peace thing moving," he said.

Ja Rule also believes that it's going to take a lot more than just the urban entertainment industry to make a true lasting difference.

"I think we do our part but everybody has to do their part.  It's not for one group to do it.  It won't happen overnight so we need to take baby steps and make it fly," he said.
