Get the Party Started: 10 Tips from Patty Laurent
February 22, 2010 / Posted in Interviews / Music / Style

By Souleo. When it comes to throwing a party, few do it as well as veteran celebrity event planner, Patty Laurent.  For almost 20 years under her own company, Patty Laurent Signature, she has coordinated corporate events for Pontiac Automobiles and Bud Light along with album release and birthday parties for celebrities such as Ne-Yo, Ludacris, Robin Thicke, and Outkast.  Her events have garnered press in the New York Post, the NY Daily News, Vibe Magazine and more.  Now Patty is bringing her expertise to JimmyJazz.com readers with ten tips on how to bring an A-list Hollywood party vibe to your own personal affair.

One:  Have a theme...

You have to create an atmosphere.  For example, if you're going with a Hawaiian theme then make sure when they walk in the room they get what is going on.

Two:  Know who is coming...

Make sure that you manage a really good guestlist and get those little RSVP's.

Three:  Clean up...

Please don't have a party in your messy house.  How you present your home says a lot about you.  If guests come into a dirty house then more than likely they won't eat the food or drink the water.

Four:  Don't make them wait...

You must be prepared before the guests arrive.  The last thing you want is to have guests sit and wait for you to do set-up of food and drinks.

Five:  Something in common...

If you don't want your guests going into your bedroom or private areas then there should be a common area where your guests can mingle.

Six:  You make the rules...

Whatever you don't like going on in your house should not happen at your party.  So make the rules known before your guests get out of hand.

Seven:  Be a pro about it...

You can make your home feel like a special event with the proper staffing.  So hire a bartender or some servers.  It's not expensive.  This way your guests don't feel like they're going to your aunt's house and mixing their own drinks.

Eight:  Show the love...

The host/hostess should be great and make people feel like they are important.  When people leave their house they already feel like they are stars so you have to make them feel like superstars.

Nine:  Break the ice...

If it's a small gathering of friends come up with games and activities especially if they don't know each other so they can interact.

Ten:  Get into the groove...

You absolutely must have the right music and the right DJ in order to get the party started.

The Look of Love Part Two: Valentine’s Day Looks
February 8, 2010 / Posted in Beauty / Interviews / Style

By Souleo. Last week, we featured the style and dating tips from noted journalist/relationship expert, Anslem Samuel of NakedWithSocksOn.com. Now we are back for part two. Anslem has perused the Jimmy Jazz catalog to select some sexy and classy outfits for your Valentine's Day date. So if you don't want your date turned into a disaster because of the wrong attire then read on to make this Valentine's Day a success from head to toe.

MEN'S Valentine's Day LOOK ONE

Sean John - Storm Flap Button Up
Parish - Life Vest Jeans
Polo Footwear - Ranger Boot

I picked this one because it's a button-up shirt and simple. Bright colors like red can be very distracting and you want the attention on you. The jeans have a nice wash. There is some personality there with the crinkled and distressed effect. The Polo Ranger boots are just classic.

MEN'S Valentine's Day LOOK TWO

Rocawear - Hydrogen Sweatshirt
Levis - 514 Slim Jeans
Adidas - Stan Smith Two Sneakers

It's classy but more of a casual look. The top is a conversation piece for the first date. This works on a more activities oriented date for bowling or playing pool. Also, if you're not into slacks or pants then black jeans helps you get away with it so no one knows it's only jeans.

WOMEN's Valentine's Day LOOK ONE

Coogi - Sateen Dress
Dereon - Fleur Skinny Jeans
Apple Bottoms - Beana Boot

It's sophisticated and sexy without going over-the-top and showing too much of your flesh. The high-waisted belt accentuates the waist and assets. Personally I'm not into logos but this logo is more of an accessory. The jeans are a great wash and show off the figure, while the boot has great details for a complete look.

WOMEN'S Valentine's Day LOOK TWO

Apple Bottoms - Pearl Necklace Top
Apple Bottoms - Studded Skinny Jeans
Bucco - Western Boot

The top goes in a more flesh category. You can tone the top down with a sweater top but in the summer time this works. Overall it's a bit of a sexier look but it's still subtle enough to keep your date wanting more.

Parish New Arrivals for Men
February 2, 2010 / Posted in Style

By Edwin STATS Houghton. Fashionistas have been flipping the rugged functionality of work gear and army surplus into a more personal statement at least since Bob Marley ran the set. These new men's shirts from Parish update that classic look by combining it with the easy comfort of athletic gear and eye-grabbing oversized graphics for the best of all worlds.

For instance, the Sail Stripe Crest Button Up pairs work-shirt toughness with aristocratic design on the crest for the ultimate crew shirt. The white on navy Striped Woven Button Up achieves the boldness of a warm-up jacket for a shirt strong enough to be your first line of defense, while the fresh and clean lines of the White Blueprint Woven Button Up is closer to the crispness of a dress uniform - perfect under a blazer or a bomber.

All bear the trademark Parish motto: Unity is Strength, a statement anyone can get behind. And with their balance of functional details and originality, these pieces won't go out of style until all wars cease.

Limited Edition: Rocawear T-Shirts!
January 12, 2010 / Posted in Music / Style

jay-z-rocawear

One of the best things about Rocawear is that you get a piece of Jay-Z with the urban fashion collection, like the recent "Empire State of Mind" tee we blogged about earlier this week, but that was just a taste.

The brand, which of coarse is owned by Hovi, released more silk screen tees inspired by the Marcy Projects rapper. The tees have song titles and references from some of Jay-Z's biggest songs, like "Can't Knock the Hustle", "Empire State of Mind", "Dead Presidents", among several others. Obviously, these tees are limited edition, so shop now before they are all gone!

Mens Winter Fashion Tip: It's cold out there and we don't want you getting sick. Wear a thermal under your tee. Available in multiple colors at JimmyJazz.com.

LETS TAKE IT BACK: Reasonable Doubt is without question one of the best hip-hop albums of all time. Beats, rhymes, a witty Jay-Z, and the blueprint for making money. Here's the original video for "Dead Presidents":

One of the best sayings in the streets (and maybe just in general) is "you can't knock the hustle". A simple quote to live by with so much meaning that was made famous from Jay-Z. Now where those words on your sleeve... literally.

LETS TAKE IT BACK: Just like "Dead Presidents", "Can't Knock The Hustle" was also featured on Reasonable Doubt. The classic features the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige.

Michael Jackson's "This Is It" Video
December 28, 2009 / Posted in Music / Style

michael-jackson-this-is-it-large

Probably one of the most heart drenching news stories of 2009 had to be the early demise of the greatest entertainer known to man-kind, Michael Jackson. Before his untimely death that stunned the world, MJ was gearing up his moon walking shoes for a 50 show tour in London, titled This Is It. In conjunction with the tour, Jackson had planed to release both a album and movie as a complete This Is It package. The first single was also titled after the tour. Below is the official music video, directed by Spike Lee. It gives fans an intimate look into Jackson's childhood and career.

A bunch of our favorite celebs have emulated the style of the great Michael Jackson. He was known for setting trends and having the world follow them, and this will certainly continue... even after his death. Jackson was probably the first entertainer to popularize the 'military look', which only fits him well, since he was indeed a leader. One of our top brands, Rocawear, a leader in urban fashion, recently dropped a Nomadic military jacket, which sort of resembles Jackson's famous collection of military jackets. What do you guys think?

(Pictured above: Omarion shows off serious dance moves in a fitted all black hoodie.)

Although the one-time member of super-boy group, B2K, was booted out from Young Money late this summer, the 25 year-old has been hard at work promoting songs and videos from his 4th album, Ollusion, scheduled to be released early 2010 through O's StarrWorld Entertainment group.

Jay Rock keeps it gangsta in a baggy light grey hoodie.

In his newest release, "Hoodie", Omarion decides to 'thug it out' a bit with west coast emerging rapper, Jay Rock. The video for "Hoodie" is a tribute to staying fresh and rockin' hoodies. "Hoodie" is also dedicated to the late Michael Jackson and is sort of reminiscent to Jackson's "Beat It" video.

Stay warm and look stylish this winter in one of many hoodies, available at JimmyJazz.com.

Will T.I. Leave Prison Early?
December 16, 2009 / Posted in Music / Style

t-i-large

Let's cross our fingers and hope that the rumors are true! Today, SandraRose.com reported that the Atlanta rapper may be released early from his bid at Arkansas' Forrest Prison and moved to a half-way house. These rumors have not been confirmed by the proper sources. Currently, T.I. is still serving his original sentence of 366-days, which began back in May.

Regardless of the matter, T.I. is is one of the most trendy rappers in music. In one of our favorite songs, "Live Your Life (featuring Rihanna), the self-proclamied King of the South raps about ignoring haters and urges that we simply live our lives to the very fullest. Tip equally motivates us to stay on top of our game... with style. in the song he spits:

"I'm the opposite of moderate. Immaculately polished. With the spirit of a hustler. And the swagger of a college kid"

To stay fresh and confident in the classroom and keep your 'Mind on your Money', check out some some of our winter selections. Keep your husteler spirit alive and look cool in the classroom in 2010!
