Dr. Austin Offers Celebrity Dental Tips

By Souleo. What is the best accessory when it comes to complementing your head-to-toe Dereon, Coogi and Polo look?  According to celebrity dentist, Dr. Catrise Austin it's a healthy and brilliant smile.  Dr. Austin has perfected the smiles of Hollywood stars such as Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Toni Braxton and hip-hop icon, Slick Rick.  In her new book, 5 Steps to the Hollywood A-List Smile: How the Stars Get That Perfect Smile and How you Can Too she covers everything from the pros and cons of the latest dental procedures, how to find free or low-cost dental care and the urban cosmetic dentistry trends you might want to stay away from such as grills.

"You can't look good with messed up teeth and grills have done a lot of damage.  10 years ago with Slick Rick I took out the gold.  It was very pleasurable for me because it changed the health of his teeth.  I've also had some people request diamonds right in their teeth.  It's not unhealthy so long as it's removable.  But it's best to go natural and avoid artificial things," she said.

Dr. Austin's tips for attaining and maintaining a natural smile is through four simple proven steps: brushing, flossing, rinsing with mouthwash and tongue scraping.

"You should brush 3 times a day after every meal to remove the sugars from your teeth.  Some people think flossing is a pain in the butt but you can use the thin strips and it gets rid of bacteria.  Rinsing with alcohol free brands helps to rinse away hidden bacteria.  A tongue scraper with ridges on it will lift bacteria from the crevices of the tongue even better.  There is a line of products called BreathRx which has everything you need."

For those constantly on-the-run and wanting to whiten their teeth, Dr. Austin recommends, Crest White Strips or her latest procedure, the Snap-On Smile.

"You can instantly change the look of your teeth without altering them with the Snap-On Smile.  It is like the grills of cosmetic dentistry.  There are no needles since we make a molding of your teeth that you flip over your teeth.  It's a cheap and affordable way to change your smile that will go great with your outfit."

Introducing: Actress Julia Pace Mitchell

August 6, 2010 / Posted in Interviews / TV
Tags: Julia Pace Mitchell / Notorious B.I.G. / The Young and the Restless

By Souleo. Avid viewers of daytime television's #1 soap opera, "The Young and the Restless" are used to a revolving door of new faces, but one new talent that is kicking down that door and making a grand entrance is newcomer, Julia Pace MitchellJulia made her debut appearance in July 2010 as, Sofia Dupre, the fiancée of Malcolm Winters (Darius McCrary).

What perhaps surprised viewers the most is that Julia is not your average size 2 and light-skinned actress on a soap.  Julia's curvaceous body and luminous dark skin is a refreshing change to daytime's typical look and something that she believes will broaden the definition of beauty on television.

"I think it's gonna make people more comfortable and aware that there is more than one definition of what beautiful is today.  Most women are size 12 or above and most Blacks have junk in the trunk.  So it's cool to have a character of that dynamic who is also a businesswoman and has a love life," she said.

The character of Sofia is also noteworthy for her drive which is something that Julia shares in common with the role.  It is such drive that she credits with having helped her never conform to Hollywood's beauty standards or give up on her dream.

"I love my character's drive.  I was so determined and never looked back when it came to acting.  I didn't starve myself, get a weave or bleach my skin.  If I listened to everybody who told me I couldn't do this I would have crawled in a hole and died somewhere, but this is my passion."

Julia is no stranger to passionate drama having played the role of Jan; one of Notorious B.I.G.'s multiple girlfriends in the urban biopic, NotoriousJulia promises that there will be just as much if not more drama to look forward to on the show.

"I can't reveal anything but you can expect some arguing here and there and some drama.  That's all I can say."

You Said It…

Tags: Foxy Brown / Kid Cudi / Sean “Diddy” Combs

By Souleo. Diddy swings from a chandelier; Foxy Brown gets arrested again; Kid Cudi attacks yet another fan; false accusations of racism lead to media/political circus; and a gay rights activist gets discharged from the military.  It's all here in this week's round-up.  Check it.

Diddy Has a Ball

Surprisingly this shot for GQ Magazine has created quite a buzz online.  In my opinion it's a fun image but nothing that should have controversy stamped all over it.  Yet the image has ignited talk of a midlife crisis, gay rumors and allegations of coonery.  Still few comments were as funny as this PMS inspired line.

"Diddy oh Diddy."

Foxy Brown

You would think after serving time in jail that hip-hopper, Foxy Brown would be extra cautious about getting involved in unnecessary drama.  Well such is not the case after she was arrested for violating a protective order filed against her dating back to 2007.  According to the rumor mill, the partially deaf star was blasting music from her Brooklyn home during rehearsal for a performance which led to a confrontation with her nemesis and neighbor, Arlene Raymond.  As the comment below demonstrates Foxy needs to bring the focus back to her music and away from the antics.

"I thought Foxy couldn't even

I thought Foxy couldn't even get arrested now nowadays...guess po-po are the only ones checking for her..lmao...."

Kid Cudi Attacks Another One

Oh no, not again.  After a fan hopped on stage during Kid Cudi's recent show the hip-hopper couldn't resist getting an ass-whooping in.  While there's much that could be said about that action it's the comment below about the security guard that has me cracking up.

"Why was Rick Ross doing security?"

Media & Political Organizations Jump the Gun

After long-time freedom fighter and USDA employee, Shirley Sherrod's comments were taken out of context a media firestorm was lit.  What was meant to be an inspiring story surrounding race and class issues turned into an example of how quickly and easily the media will crucify without justification, and how politics will stay play the race card.  Thankfully the commenter below reminds us of the true meaning of Shirley's speech.

"It was about a "life-lesson"...a "teaching" moment...Life presents you with choices just as it "colors" your responses to those choices by your experiences. This lady had great justification to give in to her baser instincts, but she chose to grow beyond her prejudices...a lesson for us all."

You Can't Keep a Good Soldier Down

After coming out of the closet and taking a stance against the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy Iraq war veteran, Lt. Dan Choi has been formally discharged due to his sexuality.  The commenter below helps put this case into perspective by reminding us all of the military's many former acts of discrimination and why this case is no different.

"Fact is until Truman integrated the service, before the country was integrated, blacks were in different units in the army. And as late as the 60's women were put up in "WAC shacks" and treated as second class citizens. That was the rules of the day. And they were wrong."

Tags: Christina Milian / George Steinbrenner / Nicki Minaj / The Dream / Trey Songz / Wesley Snipes

By Souleo. R&B singer The Dream creates a nightmare for himself with an apology letter to Christina Milian and rumors of cheating; the sports world loses one of it's greats with the passing of NY Yankees owner, George Steinbrenner; "Bottoms Up," the new single by Trey Songz ft. Nicki Minaj sets off the internet's gaydar; Wesley Snipes can't beat the system and is off to jail; and could we have another Vietnam on our hands?  It's all here in this week's round-up.  Get with it.

My, My What a Bad Dream

According to the clever commenter below The Dream's "apology" letter to Christina Milian might as well be signed by just about every male celebrity in Hollywood.  With all the revelations of cheating and shady behavior I can't disagree much.

"Sincerely signed by Swizz Beats, D. Wade and the Dream...All three of these fathers who failed to work it out with their "not hot anymore" wives should start an outreach program for men on the come-up who subscribe to the more money more women necessary policy..oh, and Tiger can be the president and Diddy can be top recruiter setting up the secret meeting spots for the initial affair."

George Steinbrenner Enters Heaven, Well Almost

The commenter below wonderfully plays off of George's public reception as both a celebrated and at times controversial figure in this sweet and funny imagining of him trying to get into Heaven.

"(Bob Sheppard in Heaven) Ladies and Gentlemen may I get your attention please, now entering the Pearly Gates, owner of the New York Yankees, George Steinbrenner (St Peter) Not so fast Mr Sheppard we have to talk with George first but I'm sure he'll get in LOL."

The Bottom Line with Trey Songz

This commenter gets to the bottom (yes, pun intended) of Trey's new single that is raising eyebrows.  While the interpretation may be a little uhm, extra it's still an entertaining perspective.

"The funny thing is that soon the negro is just going to make a song called "I'm Gay", and his fans will say "he just means that he's happy", lol. The man came out as a h*mosexual in the Drake video, "Best I Ever Had", along with that other h*mosexual "Fabolous". That video was a metaphor for how Drake was sexed into the industry, and Fabolous and Trey appeared because they were two of the ones that did it obviously. Then they follow that guest appearance up with "Say Ahh", which is obviously about fellatio between these "down low" clowns in the industry. Now "Bottoms Up". You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to see what the man is implying."

IRS Bites Deep into Wesley Snipes' Pockets

Aww, man they got Nino Brown and Blade.  Okay, it's really just Wesley but with his iconic action roles you'd think he could beat the system with just one swift move or evil glare.  Apparently not.

"The only vampires 'Blade' cant beat....the IRS."

Vietnam 2010?

With the public support of the U.S. war in Afghanistan decreasing the commenter below gets to the heart of the matter by noting how similar this situation is becoming to Vietnam.  Let's not repeat history.

"People are correct when they point out that, unlike Vietnam, Afghanistan is not the subject of mass outrage because young men are not being drafted to fight. But if we do stand as one and say that we've had enough, our involvement in Afghanistan will end just as it did in Vietnam. We *have* to be angry and Washington has to know it--nothing less will do."

Malibu Rum, Sean Paul and Estelle Kick-Off Summer

June 22, 2010 / Posted in Events / Interviews / Music / TV
Tags: Alexis Houston / Estelle / Jessica Szohr / Malibu Rum / Melanie Fiona / Sean Paul / Whitney Houston

By Souleo. The flames of summer were ignited last night by the heatwave of celebrities as they gathered for the first day of summer party hosted by Malibu Rum.  Performers Estelle and Sean Paul were joined by "Gossip Girl" star Jessica Szohr, soul singer Melanie Fiona, singer Alexis Houston (Whitney Houston's sister), rising Atlantic Records artist, Donnis and more.  The night featured thirst quenching and party-starting Malibu Rum drinks, an orange carpet representing one of this season's main colors, white canopied tents flowing in the breeze, the summery tunes of Estelle and Sean Paul, and one of the best views in all of New York City from the Tribeca Rooftop.

JimmyJazz.com tweeted the event live but now it's time to share what we didn't tweet last night.  We caught up with the stars to get their must-have looks for the summer season, their favorite summer pastimes and most memorable summer experiences.  Forget spring 'cause summer is officially in the air.

Sean Paul's favorite summer pastime:

I love going to parties in Jamaica.  I don't get a lot of trouble there and that's one thing that's great to me about living at home.  They are used to me after 15 years so it's not like I can't do this or that.  I get to relax.

Estelle's summer fashion tip and most memorable summer:

As far as tips I would say just be comfortable.  I'm a big advocator of wearing after flip flops after hours in heels walking on cobblestones.

My most memorable summer was my first time in Miami.  I left with a sun burn that lasted for a year.

Jessica Szohr's summer look:

I'm into the cropped jean jackets with the cut sleeves or quarter length sleeves and bright colored dresses.

Melanie Fiona's summer look and favorite summer memory:

I love hats.  They are great because I do the beach and my gets messy.  I also love big wooden tribal accessories.  They go good with a dress or jeans.

My favorite summer memory is having my first boyfriend.  It was good to be out of school and try to keep in touch however we could.  I would go to the corner store just to see if he was there and meet up with him.  So summer for me always feels like a loving and happy time.

Alexis Houston's most memorable summer:

Spending time with my family on a small island in the Bahamas.  I come from a family that is always travelling and it's seldom to be together at once.  So it was good to be together with Whitney [Houston], my nieces and cousins and college friends.

Donnis' summer look:

I'm a very simple Polo guy.  I guess it's the Atlanta thing.  I also need some boat shoes and a Fredrik Samuelsson summer windbreaker jacket.

Dennis L.A. White's most memorable summer:

My favorite summer memory is from three or four years ago at P. Diddy's all white party in the Hamptons.  I had no ticket but I snuck in, walked the carpet and got twisted that night.  A few years later and I'm in "Notorious."

Panama's favorite summer pastime:

I like to travel on vacation and enjoy the sun and beach.  I don't go too crazy but that's my thing.

Snoop Dogg’s Love Jones for Sookie

By Souleo. Aww, sookie, sookie now!  Snoop Dogg is revealing his crush on Bon Temps' resident hottie, Sookie in a new promo for HBO's hit show, "True Blood."

This love jones could be the real deal or it could be Snoop's sneaky little way of finally getting a role on the show since he's been requesting a spot on the series for a long time.  Either way we don't think vampires, Bill Compton or Eric Nortman are too pleased about Snoop's display of affection for Sookie.

Check out Snoop's video "Oh, Sookie" here:

The Questions: Malik Yoba

June 8, 2010 / Posted in Interviews / Movies / Style / TV
Tags: BET / Malik Yoba / New York Undercover / Shop Talk / Tom Ford / Tyler Perry / Why Did I Get Married Too? / Why Did I Get Married?

By Souleo. Rarely is an actor gifted with as many talents and facets as Malik YobaMalik has proven to be one of Hollywood's best actors from his classic role on the hit TV show "New York Undercover" to his leading role in the Tyler Perry films, "Why Did I Get Married?" and "Why Did I Get Married Too?"  But the accomplishments don't end there.  Malik is a veteran producer, writer and all-around entrepreneur with a diverse portfolio of work.

One of his crowning achievements is the highly successful BET web series, "Shop Talk."  Malik stars, writes, co-directs and produces the series which focuses on life lessons and provocative topics with a colorful crew of outspoken new cats, young guys, and business-savvy young ladies.  Although scripted, the characters pull from each actor's lifelong experiences, often going off-script for candid and inspired real talk.

JimmyJazz.com recently got Malik off script as he talked why "swagger" is overrated, his joy in representing the urban community, menstrual cramps (uhm, yeah) and more.

Stop the hype: Use of the word swagger.

I wish I could: Live to see my children be senior citizens.

Currently crazy about: All the wonderful opportunities I'm receiving after over a decade of working hard to convince corporate America of my relevance and the opportunities in our community.

Favorite brand or designer: I'm all over Tom Ford's Black Orchid cologne.

I dance in my underwear to: "The Naked Song."

Five years from now: I'll be five years wiser.

If I were the opposite sex: I would find a cure for menstrual cramps.

The one that makes me a good lover: Compassion.

When I'm alone in bed at night: I do things I should only do alone in bed at night.

The Questions: Kim Fields

June 1, 2010 / Posted in Movies / TV
Tags: Brett Favre / House of Payne / Kim Fields / Living Single / The Facts of Life / Tyler Perry

By Souleo. You can call Kim Fields many things: talented actress (“The Facts of Life” & “Living Single”), director (“Tyler Perry’s Meet the Brown’s” & “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”), singer (the 1984 club hit He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not) and more.  But the title most fitting is probably, Ms. Reinvention.  Kim has consistently demonstrated that child stars can have long careers in Hollywood not only in front of the camera but also behind-the-scenes.  Whether she is directing, producing or acting it’s hard to resist her charm, wit and down-to-earth spirit.

Kim displayed all three winning traits as she talked her love for Brett Favre, why she never pursued her dream of becoming a marine biologist, her appreciation for her family’s love and more.

Stop the hype: Carbs are not that bad.

I wish I could: Sing like the Clark Sisters.

Currently crazy about: My little boy and the TV show “Burn Notice.”

I dance in my underwear to: I get my praise on regardless.

Five years from now: My son will be eight and I won’t believe it.

If I were the opposite sex: I would love my wife as much as I know my husband loves me.  I would do everything I could to be Brett Favre’s receiver.  I love Brett Favre.

When I was younger: I wanted to be a marine biologist but I didn’t like math.

I can’t believe: That God has blessed me to do all I’m doing and receive the love I receive.

Models International Agency: Industry Changes

June 1, 2010 / Posted in Beauty / Style / TV
Tags: Agency / Changes / Fashion / Highlights / Industry / International / Models

By Souleo. The young, hot and beautiful were out in full force this past Friday at the Models International Agency VIP press party held at New York's famed bowling alley, Lucky Strike.  Amidst thumping tunes from DJ Velz, a flowing open bar and pretty faces in the crowd the agency celebrated its recent feature on the new MTV docu-series "Hired."  The series follows recent college graduates pursuing their dream career and the agency was profiled as it selected their next junior booking agent.

At the event one of the hot topics of the night was the fashion world's lack of diversified images.  According to the east coast office managing partner, Catherine Fellows the industry is finally changing with a lean towards more ethnic models.

"I think the direction is becoming so diverse and so is the world.  You are beginning to see more ethnic models like Asians and African-Americans.  I would love to see an Indian model become a superstar.  I regularly get clients that ask for ethnically ambiguous so it's not just Eastern European or Caucasian models anymore," she said.

Models International's women's booking agent, Andrienne Kennedy noted that besides race the industry is changing with a more welcoming embrace of curvaceous women.

"I think it's diversifying and clients are embracing womanly bodies.  It's moving away from the thin models and learning towards more models with more curves and flesh on their bones who can relate to the everyday woman."

With so much change in the air it looks like Models International Agency is helping to lead the way with an embrace of more varied looks.

So tell us do you agree that the industry is becoming more fashion forward when it comes to presenting a greater range of races and female sizes?
