Pictured Above: Alicia Keys and Charles Barkley.

On Saturday, both NBA commenter Charles Barkley and Singer/ Songwriter Alicia Keys took the stage and went live on New York's Saturday Night Live. Barkley, hosted the show, while Alicia was the entertainment guest and performed "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart" and "Empire State of Mind". Key's also appeared in one comedy skit. Take a look at one of Barkley's skits from the show, as well as Key's killing the keys on "Empire State of Mind".

If you notice, Charles Barkley chuckles a bit throughout the skit, but still does a good job playing himself and keeping viewers entertained.

What better song to perform on New York's Saturday Night Live than "Empire State of Mind"?

Speaking of "Empire State of Mind". Rocawear just released a limited edition t-shirt for women commemorating the hit record from Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3. The screen-print tee features a Statue of Liberty in the backdrop with red sunglasses. Would you cop this?

The Chunky Boyz Rep the Plus Size Crowd
December 4, 2009 / Posted in Interviews / Music / TV

By Souleo.

In the world of hip-hop there is at least one rapper to rep for every segment of the hip-hop community.  You have your gangsta rappers for the thugs, your backpack rappers for the conscious crowd and your party rappers for the club crowd.  What is missing is a plus size rapper for the larger crowd.  Well, say no more because the Chunky Boyz are hoping to fill that void.  The rap duo consists of MTV reality stars from the “Rob & Big,” show, Big Black and his tag team partner, Bam Bam.  Together the two are aiming to deliver a confident message of empowerment for the plus size hip-hop crowd with their debut album, Overweight Champs.

“We are overweight but we have still had success in everything we have done. We never looked at our weight as a curse. We turned it into something positive and now this is our moniker. We won the championship,” Big Black states.

It’s that kind of unshakeable confidence, which Big Black humorously describes as being “fat and cocky,” that the two use to celebrate their size on songs such as their lead single “Rocking Double B’s,” which you can hear below.   The single was inspired by the need for fashionable plus size fashion in order to combat the stereotypes that big people don’t dress well or keep up their appearances.

“Everybody wants to make fat synonymous with smelling bad and looking bad but that’s not the case.  Big people want to look good too.  So I had a clothing company and they went up to 7X for the big people and sold very well,” Big Black said.

Bam Bam added, “We never believed in looking down look down.  We look good and dress good.  We don’t care if you don’t like us for our weight, then so be it.  So we really wrote this song and album to address the stereotypes we face being this size and to tell the haters to fall back or get crushed.”

In addition to the album the duo is planning a potential return to television, motivational speaking to obese youth and an expansion of the Double B clothing line to retail outlets such as Wal Mart and Kohl’s.  JimmyJazz.com is also the place to find hot plus size fashion items up to a size 3X.

The Oprah Show to End in 2011
November 20, 2009 / Posted in TV

oprah-winfrey-large

Wow!! One of the most syndicated and the longest running daytime talk shows in the United States, The Oprah Winfrey Show, will unplug from sets across he country after 25 successful seasons in the year 2011. Although this is sad news for fans that have followed Oprah's humbling beginning, it's already being reported that the Mississippi-born Winfrey is planning on starting a new show on her very own OWN network (yup, she own's that). Even if Oprah, 55, decided not to come back to television, she can certainly rest comfortably on the billions of dollars that she is worth.

JJ Flashback #1: Before the release of Jay-Z's 11th studio album The Blueprint 3, Oprah visited Hov's early stomping grounds in Brooklyn, New York. Here's some footage from the show:

JJ Flashback #2: Most recently, Oprah had retired Boxing champ on her show, Mike Tyson. The 2-part show was probably one of the most touching to air all season. Tyson, who has been struggling with personal issues for some time now, opened up on the daytime talk show:

Monica Defines 'Still Standing'
November 17, 2009 / Posted in Music / TV

monica-large

Monica's reality TV series on BET, Still Standing, has been buzzing since it recently aired. The title of the show is also the name of Monica's 6th album release and single, which is slated for a early 2010 release.

In a recent cover story with Rolling Out Magazine, here's how the Atlanta-born Monica interpreted 'Still Standing':

"Still standing [are] words that, once you put them together, you think strength. Whatever the rest of the interpretation is, you think ‘still standing' as in not giving up, not turning back, not letting go ... that's how I feel in my everyday life. ‘Still Standing' is the title of the show, but it's also the name of the album, because it's the best representation of where I am right now. That may change in a couple of years. I hope that I'm still standing," she says as an involuntary chuckle escapes her. "But how I look at things may change. It just best describes me right now." - Monica, via Rolling Out Magazine (November 2009)

Major props to Monica, who first hit the scene in 1995 with her triple-platinum debut, Miss Thang. Check out the full interview here!

Lil Mama Speaks On Crashing Jay-Z Performance
September 16, 2009 / Posted in TV

lil-mama-large

As reported this week, on Sunday during MTV's Video Music Awards (VMA's), Lil Mama jumped-up on stage unwelcomely during Jay-Z's closing performance for "Empire State of Mind", which features Songress, Alicia Keys. Viewers at home and at the awards where puzzled by the appearance. Check out the video interview below with America's Best Dance Crew judge, Lil Mama, talking to Tim Kash about her publicized, failed apperance at the VMA's.

Above all, can you blame her? She's was just trying to show respect to one of the greats. What do you guys think? Here's the original performance footage from Sunday night:

Really, Kanye.... Really?
September 14, 2009 / Posted in Music / TV

kanye-taylor-vma-large

Last night will be one of the most talked about MTV Video Music Awards in network history. From Lady Gaga's outlandish wardrobe to Lil Mama's not-so-cool stage appearance during Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" performance with NYC's very own, Alicia Keys. But, by far the highlight of the evening had to be when Kanye West interrupted Country/ Pop megasgtar, Taylor Swift speech while she was receiving her Moon Man for "Best Female Video". Here's the clip from his VERY rude interruption.

Above all, things managed to work out for Taylor. While Beyonce was on stage receiving her accolade for "Video of the Year" for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)", she invited the 19 year-old on stage to finish her "Best Female Video" speech.

Fall 2009 TV Preview!!!
September 9, 2009 / Posted in TV

Aaaaaaahhhhh!!!! (Interpret that as the angelic sound they use in TV/Movies when someone finds what they are looking for...LOL)

Well people, wait no longer.  It’s finally here; the new Fall TV season. So make sure there’s a fresh pair of batteries in the remote and check that there is adequate space on your DVR/TiVo.

This season is slightly different from last season. Most of your favorites are returning but some aren’t. (There is a list provided of Cancelled Shows so that you may properly prepare yourselves to mourn your loss in your own way.) But mostly what you will notice is that a lot of your favorite shows have changed days (Fringe), time slots (One Tree Hill), and maybe even networks (Medium).

Some changes may have you calling your cable/satellite provider to request a second or third DVR/TiVo box. (Yes, SERIOUSLY)

And so without further delay here is your TvN3rD Fall TV Preview Week #1:

SEPTEMBER 8TH:

8pm: CW-90210- This will be the second season for the 90’s show re-make. The show did perform better than expected. Let’s see if season two can compete. Will we find out who Annie hit with her car? Who was in the car that showed up as she sped away? How will they describe Ethan’s exit from the show? And who is this new guy Teddy  with the big meaty hands?

9pm: CW-Melrose Place-NEW SHOW- Just like its lead in show 90210, Melrose is another re-make of a 90’s classic Aaron Spelling show. It does have some familiar faces from the original show. Familiar that is if you were around when the original aired. If not, it does have some of Hollywood’s new and upcoming talent, most of whom are not bad to look at. The show deals with the lives and drama of a group of twenty-somethings living in an apartment complex on California’s famous Melrose Blvd. If it’s anything like the original, be prepared to deal with a lot of infidelity, revenge, difficult choices and murder. The latter is to take place in the first episode, where some one is found floating in the pool face down and bloody. I am curious and excited to see if it lives up to the original, all while maintaining its modern time edge and appeal.

10pm: FX-Sons of Anarchy- This season a group of white supremacists arrive in Charming and consequently butt heads with Clay and the MC. I’m looking forward to see the rift between Clay and Jax play out. Who from the MC will align themselves with Jax? Will Opie find out it was Clay and Tig behind the brutal murder of his wife Donna? Will we continue to find out any more info on Jax’s dad and how he died? This is one of the best original shows on cable today. Season two will surely live up to the grittiness and realism of the first season.

SEPTEMBER 9TH:

8pm: CW-America’s Next Top Model- This is the thirteenth season of the hit Tyra Banks reality show. This season (or “cycle” as Tyra would say) is a little different than past cycles. This time they will have models that are 5’7” tall and shorter, who will try to mimic the success of shorter models like Kate Moss. The season takes place in Los Angeles. The season premiere will be a 2 hours and all the models will get makeovers.

9pm: FOX-Glee-New Show- If the preview of this show back in May was any indication, this show will be a hit. It has witty humor and a great storyline, pair that up with musical numbers of hit songs and you have an extremely entertaining hour of television. You can get a sneak preview of the Glee Club performing its version of “Gold Digger” for free on iTunes. You can also catch the pilot episode for free on Hulu.com. Trust me it is worth watching, if only to see someone get a colorful slushie thrown in their face. CLASSIC!! LoL!!

SEPTEMBER 10TH:

8pm: CW-The Vampire Diaries-NEW SHOW- Based on the best-selling books by L.J. Smith. The show doesn’t exactly follow the same storyline(s) as the book but what show or movie ever really does? The show is about Elena Gilbert a popular girl in school who suffered the tragic loss of her parents and now must struggle to keep how she truly feels inside all while keeping a smile on her face around her friends, until the new kid in school Stefan Salvatore peaks her interest. She soon finds they have a lot in common. Stefan is the vampire that the show centers around. It shows how he must struggle with his hunger/taste for blood and with his love for Elena. All is calm until there are mysterious attacks which Stefan finds eerily familiar. He soon realizes that his brother Daemon is in town and Daemon quickly realizes Stefan’s interest in Elena. From there on the battle for her and her soul begins. I am currently reading the first book in the series and it is good, so if that’s any clue to how the shows outline will be, I AM SO THERE!

9pm: CW-Supernatural- Season Five will most likely start where season four left off, with Lucifer being set free from hell and Sam and Dean are watching it happen. They then join forces with Bobby to deal with the aftermath of Lucifer’s rising. This season will also explore what Sam would be like if he was completely evil (episode 4) and will show how Dean tries to stay alive when every demon is gunning for him, seeming as he is the Angel’s Chosen One, the one who will end the demon party on earth and send Lucifer back. The Winchester Boys will spend most of the season trying to figure out how to get Lucifer, played by Mark Pellegrino (LOST’s Jacob), back to hell and how to deal with the consequence of their actions (Sam being responsible for freeing Lucifer) and dealing with what it will take to do what is expected of them (Dean’s responsibility of sending Lucifer back). I’m sure there will be messages sent from Chuck the Prophet and the boys will find some allies in some unlikely places. It is sure to be an interesting journey.

That’s all for this week. Stay tuned for Week #2. Happy TvNeRdin’!!
