By Souleo Sean Kingston has a major accident; public schools want you to pay to walk through the door; and that cell phone of yours may kill you one day. So much drama after the jump.

Sean Kingston is a survivor

Recording artist, Sean Kingston was going a little too fast for his own good on a jet ski over Memorial Day weekend. The singer is currently in recovery from a broken jaw and wrist after crashing into the Palm Island Bridge in Miami. His passenger, Cassandra Sanchez suffered only minor injuries. While many have expressed prayers of support for Sean some folks can't get over his poor decision making skills.

"He hit a bridge? Gee, bridges don't move so you really have to aim at them. But then, to me, anyone on a jet ski is basically a moron. It's good to see them working their way out of the gene pool,"

Do not come to school empty handed

The recession is having a negative effect on all areas of society and now public schools are forced to respond to the situation. To alleviate the burden of high costs and low state funding some public schools are charging fees for enrollment in everything from advanced classes to school bus rides. This is certainly a disturbing situation that will further divide the poor and rich, thus giving greater opportunities to the latter that can afford quality education. Still not everyone agrees. What do you say?

"Complaining about a $200 fee for sports is laughable. Have your lazy kid rake some leaves, shovel snow, or do something to make a measly few hundred dollars to play a sport, if its that important to them and you don't want to pay it."

Don't answer that call

It's been speculated for a long time that cell phones can lead to cancer but now there appears to be growing support for the idea. The World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer recently classified cell phone radio waves as "possibly carcinogenic." This move could lead the United Nations to conduct an extensive investigation into the potential harm of cell phones. Still some people think it's not the cell phones that are dangerous; it's really the ones using them.

"With most of the individuals I see excessively talking on their cell phone (especially while driving), there isn't much up there to begin with....."

Donald Trump pushes President Barack Obama up against a wall; a man's bodily fluid is more powerful than you think; and oh yeah some royal folks got married this week. Strange things happen after the jump.

Obama's Birther Issue

Donald Trump managed to force President Barack Obama to reveal his long-form birth certificate. President Obama felt compelled to deliver proof that he was born in the U.S. after the media focused so heavily on the issue. Now, he wants us to get back to addressing real issues like education and unemployment. But not everyone is happy that President Obama attempted to put the issue to bed by showing his papers.

"I still think Obama shouldn't have revealed his Birth Certificate because he is the President for cryin' out LOUD!...But if the WHITE man says "Show me your papers" he is still stuck in the Uncle Tom behaviour "Okay Massah i will' smh We are in 2011 this ish is still happenin'?"

A real good cocktail

Until last week, Lazar Greenfield, M.D. was the president-elect of the American College of Surgeons. But that all changed when he wrote an article on the benefits of semen for women that led to threats of protest from women's groups. Dr. Greenfield cited research from the Archives of Sexual Behavior, which found that female college students practicing unprotected sex were less likely to experience depression compared to those who used condoms or were abstinent. Here's the joke Dr. Greenfield wrote that got him in trouble: "So there's a deeper bond between men and women than St. Valentine would have suspected, and now we know there's a better gift for that day than chocolates." Well, at least the reader below found some value in the line.

"...if my precious bodily fluid can cheer women up, I'm willing to help."

Jesse Jackson, Sr. is accused of harassment and discrimination by a gay employee; the latest vote by Republicans looks to destroy Medicare and Medicaid; and there is a new race growing in numbers and power. The times are changing now.

Jesse Jackson, Sr. under fire

Mister Cee may not be the only supposedly heterosexual male being exposed for seeking the pleasures of men. Tommy R. Bennet, a former employee of Jesse Jackson, Sr. has filed a wrongful termination and discrimination case against Jesse and his Rainbow PUSH Coalition. In the complaint, Tommy alleges that he was fired because he was gay and accuses Jesse of making suggestive sexual passes at him. Without hard evidence (no pun intended) this is just another case of he said/he said so until then let's have a laugh.

"Maybe he just wanted a little head line."

Who will care for Grandma?

I'm not sure how or why this news item passed under the radar but it's quite troubling.  House Republicans passed a budget resolution to slowly but surely end the current Medicare system by offering partially subsidized private insurance. Plus they voted to allow some states to cut back on Medicaid's benefits for the poor and disabled. Here's hoping that AARP and all other invested organizations take a stand on this case of social injustice.

"Does the AARP take a stand on political issues? I sure hope so.

And meanwhile, these mofos have full medical coverage for themselves and their families. Wow, just wow. pure evil."

Hispanics take the lead

It looks like the face of America's leading minority group is quickly changing. According to new Census figures, Hispanics outnumber African-Americans in most major U.S. cities. Hispanics are now the majority minority in 191 of 366 metro areas. This change will certainly effect how we deal with race relations, what issues politicians will pay attention to and whether or minority groups will be able to join together and take a united stand for political, social and economic progress.

"In coming years, black voters and their issues will be moved further and further into the margins, and down the pecking order of the Democratic agenda. In favor of the next wave of future voters."

Chris Brown has a major diva tantrum; Wyclef Jean gets "grazed" by a bullet but some don't believe him; and wrestler, Anthony Robles who was born without his right leg becomes a champion. It's a mixed bag after the jump.

Chris Brown needs help

So when you're angry do you normally throw a chair against a window and run outside with your shirt off? Well, yes if you're Chris Brown. The troubled singer had a public meltdown after getting angered by "Good Morning America," co-host, Robin Roberts for bringing up the topic of his physical assault on Rihanna during their interview. Chris has since "apologized" for his actions but few are buying it including the commenter below. It seems as if Chris needs to truly get some mental health treatment and stay away from chairs.

"I hope this is a WAKE UP call...he definitely needs new handlers for sure. I believe he thinks what he did was 'cute' not realizing it could cost him his freedom. He needs to go sit down somewhere and stop being a baby."

Wyclef, who shot ya?

Was he or wasn't he remains the question surrounding Wyclef Jean's alleged shot in the hand. During the height of Haiti's Presidential elections, Wyclef appeared on CNN stating that a bullet grazed him but Haiti police authorities say he was cut by glass. Some commenters believe Wyclef may be pulling a publicity stunt. Hmm, can't say I would put it past him.

"I thought much of the same thing about Wyclef's character when he was attempting to run for the President of Haiti. Some people will do almost anything to get a headline. I'm not at all surprised with these developments...this man has absolutely zero creditability!"

An unfair win?

You can't tell Anthony Robles to break a leg because he was born without his right leg and he is still a major success in sports. Anthony is now the NCAA wrestling champion in the 125-pound weight class after defeating Matt McDonough from Iowa. As inspirational as this story is not everyone thinks it was a fair match. What do you think?

"big advantage imo...he's missing 25% of his bodyweight, so the rest of him is WAY bigger and stronger than the other wrestlers...plus, he's so hard to practice for...congrats to him though"

Nate Dogg transitions to the other side; the U.S. could be one step closer to war with Libya; and the state of Michigan wants a dictator to make all financial decisions.  The battle starts now.

Time to give an old G, Nate Dogg his props

You might want to pour a libation in honor of legendary West Coast singer, Nate Dogg who passed away at the age of 41 on March 15, 2011.  Nate suffered from health complications following strokes in 2007 and 2008.  The g-funk master sang the hook on numerous classics including his major hit with Warren G, "Regulate."  The commenter below is truly emotional over the passing and he even turns on the hosting site for not making Nate the top story of the day.

"I wasn't gone say nothing but u mother******* at mto ain't about [EXPLETIVE] wit ur reporting and the headlines suck at how u announced it then u put up bull**** over real [EXPLETIVE] sorry sons of b******"

This could mean war

The U.N. Security Council recently passed a resolution that would authorize "all necessary measures" to protect civilians from Moammar Qaddafi's military in Libya.  U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton went so far as to note that the U.N. no-fly zone over Libya would include, "...bombing targets like the Libyan defense systems."  While the cause seems honorable of protecting innocent people not everyone believes that this step was necessary or wise as it may lead to greater U.S. military involvement and possibly, war.

"Yay another war, another war president, and another big heaping of 'Blowback' headed our way."

Michigan likes dictators

If Michigan lawmakers have their way they will follow Wisconsin as yet another state aiming to limit the bargaining rights of unions.  The state is close to passing a bill that would appoint an "emergency manger," with the power to fire local elected officials, eliminate services including whole cities or school districts and more without any need for public input.  I agree with the commenter below that this sounds more like a dictatorship than a democracy.

"What we are witnessing my friends is the death of democracy and the rise of a dictatorship. As I have said before, these politicians have spent a lot of effort on distracting the American public through scapegoating so that they can be free to do as they want. This governor as well as gov. Walker has no interest in the public they are supposed to serve they are only looking after their own interests and the interests of their friends."

Japan experiences a major earthquake; "Real Housewives of Atlanta," star and singer-songwriter, Kandi Burruss' dead fiancé's daughter is in critical condition; and Illinois abolishes the death penalty.  The drama begins now.

Japan's Ferocious Earthquake

By now, you all should have heard about the massive 30-foot tsunami created by one of the largest earthquakes ever in recorded history (8.9 magnitude) that devastated Japan's eastern coast Friday March 11, 2011.  The natural disaster is expected to have killed hundreds in Japan and the tsunami then spread to Hawaii.  Furthermore, in Japan, the area surrounding a nuclear power plant in the northeast was evacuated after the reactor's cooling system did not take effect.  No radiation leaks have been reported but the situation has left some questioning nuclear energy period.

"Will this change people's minds about nooklur energy? I doubt it - BP's Well from He// dint change their minds about off shore drilling."

Praying for Asheley Jewell

It seems that when the "Real Housewives of Atlanta," cast isn't making headlines for childish arguments they are experiencing heavy personal drama.  Such is the case for Kandi Burruss as news broke this week that her deceased fiancé's 15-year old daughter, Asheley Jewell, was wounded in an apparent road rage shooting.  Our prayers go out to Jewell's family and loved ones.

"So sad. There is so much anger in the world and it's getting worse. Just like the guy in the previous post who punched the woman for the parking space. Too many people are selfish and mean. I hope she makes a full recovery."

No more lethal injections in Illinois

According to the Center on Wrongful Convictions at the Northwestern University School of Law, of the 298 men and women who were given the death penalty in Illinois, 20 have been exonerated - a rate of more than 6 percent.  This is the highest exoneration rate of all the states within the nation that allow the death penalty.  In response Governor Pat Quinn, has decided to abolish the death penalty in Illinois, effective July 1, 2011.  While this is a very sensitive subject the commenter below highlights a significant point.  If it were you on the other end and was wrongfully sentenced how would you feel?

"...And for the people that use the "well if your family was murdered you would belive in the death penalty". I say this...If you could be 100% certain in ALL cases that the person was guilty of the crime condemned for, well yes. But there is NO WAY you can be 100% certain. And I ask you this, "How would you like to be the innocent one sitting on death row about to be murdered by your country?"

Charlie Sheen is about to deliver some tiger blood to Haiti; Beyonce works too damn hard for the "blood" money; and Da Brat is ready to clean your windows. The foolery starts now.

Charlie Sheen is WINNING...in Haiti?

If you thought you knew the definition of winning then think again. Actor Charlie Sheen has his own interpretation of winning and he debuted his new favorite word in a series of troubling, confusing and downright funny TV interviews. Charlie claims to be drug free and it appears that no one is buying that story. Still some people are in his corner including actor, Sean Penn who announced that Charlie will accompany him on a visit to Haiti.  This isn't the best idea to some people who think that the earthquake-ravaged country can't take any more pain.

Beyonce, girl, keep yo' check

Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi is receiving worldwide condemnation for his violent attacks on protestors and now folks are following the money trail. Apparently stars such as 50 Cent, Usher, Mariah Carey, Beyonce and Nelly Furtado performed for Gaddafi and received a reported $1 million each. Folks now want the stars to return the "blood" money and donate it to charity. After coming under media scrutiny, Beyonce has announced that she donated the money to charity. But not everyone thinks the move was necessary.

"If I was Bey I would have said I worked for that money so I'm keeping it. People make me sick with misplaced morality. Money is made from liquor, wars (both domestic and abroad) i.e. Pres. Bush...VP Cheney need I say more. The clothing industry makes money off of sweat shops. Jewelry industry has blood diamonds. Give me a break she should have gien anything away unless she truly wanted to, not because of being socially morally obligated."

Da Brat released from jail

It's been a long three years since we have heard the fast paced rhymes of animated rapper, Da Brat. It looks like that will change now that she has been released from prison after serving time for aggravated assault. In a video with her longtime friend and collaborator, Jermaine Dupri the rapper stated, "Guess whose back in the mother----ing house," she said in the video. "I'm out on a little pass. I had to do some lawyer, attorney stuff." Brat went on to thank her fans for their support and for sending her letters while she was locked away. The 36-year-old also revealed that her new job is the polar opposite of her musical career. "I make windows," she said. "If ya'll need a window, holla at ya girl. I'm doing my thing. When I come back I'm going to be making windows, movies, music, TV shows. Anything I can get my hands on."

Not everyone is impressed.

"Just hope she dont get her hands on any rum bottles ole 36 yo thug. Grow up, still sound like an idiot. Not remorseful at all and trying to tell the youth to not choose violence, but I make windows crap. Like something funny. She'll be back in the pokey because she sounds like she still stuck on idiot."

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

February 7, 2011 / Posted in Politics / World
Tags: AIDS / HIV / Hydeia Broadbent

with Hydeia Broadbent.

According to www.blackaidsday.org more than any other racial/ethnic group in the United States, African-Americans account for more new HIV infections, AIDS cases, people estimated to be living with HIV disease, and HIV related deaths. Even though African-Americans make up 13% of the US population, they account for about half (49%) of the people who get HIV and AIDS.

At birth, Hydeia Broadbent fell into this category when she was diagnosed as having a congenital HIV condition. At the age of three, she was diagnosed as HIV-positive with advancement to AIDS. The prognosis was that she would not live past the age of five. Now at the age of 26, Hydeia spends her time spreading the message of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention by promoting abstinence, safe sex practices (for people who choose to have sex) and "Knowing Your HIV/AIDS Status". Later this year she will launch a campaign entitled, "A Day Without," which promotes no contact with the opposite or same sex for 24 hours of introspection and self-confidence building.

After appearances spreading her message on national television programs including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "20/20," "Good Morning America" and more she joins JimmyJazz.com to honor National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a national HIV testing and treatment community mobilization initiative targeted at African-Americans in the United States and the Diaspora. Read on for Hydeia's important message of combating complacency, the media's responsibility in preventing HIV/AIDS cases and what safe sex really means.

On the present state of complacency:

I feel like America has become too complacent because people are not dying at an alarming rate. I feel bad about this generation because when I grew up there were campaigns and celebrities doing events. Now we are complacent because we have medicine and people think they can just pop a pill and be okay. But many can't afford that medication and depend on the government. With the bad economy governments are doing cutbacks and many are not receiving their medication. We need to educate ourselves and use our voices to talk about what's going on in the black community.

On how the media promotes irresponsible sexual behavior:

There is no substance in music anymore. The music tells you it feels good but never talks about consequences. While some of us are smart enough not to follow the words or rhymes of music some young people don't get it and think it's okay. They see it on TV so feel it must be acceptable.

On practicing not just safe sex but safer sex:

When we talk about sex we can protect ourselves and say no strings attached but one person always gets attached and feelings become involved. So even if you're using protection you have to ask yourself if the people you're sleeping with is a reflection of how much you value yourself. You have to ask yourself why don't I value my body enough to just have sex with one person? What is this saying about my state of mind and how I feel about myself?
