Azealia Banks keeps her guard up with fashion
Newcomer Azealia Banks has been blowing up for the past year thanks to her honest anthems and her eye-catching ensembles. Banks has gained popularity in the music world largely because of her fashion sense, but she recently opened up to Hypetrak TV about her qualms with the industry.
Banks admitted she has a love for certain designers and for mixing high end duds with more urban women's clothing, but doesn't like to take the fashion world too seriously. She wants her music to be what people remember, not what she was wearing to a certain event or show.
"If you place your faith in the fashion world you will get let down as an artist. You absolutely will get let down," Banks told the news outlet. "...Too much fashion attention as an artist can actually smother you and it can really, really distract from your music."
Finding a balance between being an artist and taking over the hip hop fashion world may be tough for Banks, especially since a famed designer helped her gain popularity. Banks made a name for herself after famed designer Karl Lagerfeld asked her to perform during a party at his home in Paris in January of 2012, according to Billboard magazine.
