Hi, I plan on impacting a change in my community by getting the children more involved in programs and activities that get them away from the street and all the negative things they are exposed to. Right now Im working on having a benefit concert to remove as many people from that negative energy as possible for at least that one night which might make a difference. So being that the children are the future, I would like to use the present to make the future a more positive future.

*****o, im trying to make my impact on the community by keeping the young and the old from drinking and driving almost 2 years age i lost my Fiance and my sons father who was (2) at his father untimely death. that it affects us all and you hurt people of all ages. look at my son he will never have that chance to know his father, while this women sits in jail for a short time of 3 to 9 years. today we need to take this driking and driving alot more serious than we do. she killed someone and doesnt get life, whereas if you take a gun out and kill someone you can get life where is the justice at.

As an African-American student attending a predominantly white private college it can be difficult to engage in activities in & outside the classroom. I plan to interact with the other students more than I have in the past. I will no longer allow the status & wealth of other students to intimidate my social-life on campus. I will ask more question in class disregarding the opinions of my peers. I will encourage others, like myself, to become more social and active in the classroom as well as on campus in general. Dr. King did not take the stand for us to have equal opportunity & not utilize it. By engaging myself more I will deliver a different point of view to the environment, providing others with a better understanding of people like myself. By encouraging others to do the same this will bring our college community even closer & the unity will fester into out personal lives at home - making the world a bit more livable.

My community is mostly blacks, and with blacks comes crime and trouble. To impact my community, I plan to, along woth my church, feed the homeless and less fortunate. Every year we do so, and try to get them involved with church. I also paln to help the homeless get into shelters and into community colleges to further their education. The world would be a better place if we all helped eachother out a little. By doing so, there will be less people on the streets, stealing from the next person jus to get a bite to eat. The people i help will be able to get jobs and learn how to help others like I help them.

I plan on impacting my community by talking to youth about different opporitunities and choices they have after high school. Not everyone is geared towards college. I myself followed the crowd and my families wishes and applied for college even though it really wasn't what I wanted. Once accepted into Virginia Union University, I decided not to go and take a different path. An older friend of the family called me up one day and talked to me about the military. I knew college wasn't for me but didn't really have a back up plan so the military sounded o.k. I joined and ten years later I am still here. The military offers alot of benefits to people. The job training and leadership skills prepare you for the real world. With the training I have gotten my resume is already looking good and at any point when I decide I am done with the military I have opporitunities to excel in world and make it in this tough economy. Whenever I get a chance to go home I tell younger people about my experience and encourage them to make a positive move in their lives that will set them up for an outstanding and blessed future. I share my experiences both good and bad and explain all the benefits they can gain from enlisting in the military versus sitting around the neighborhood getting in and out of trouble. Especially the younger men who have kids of their own and want to do anything possible to provide for them. When I was young someone older schooled me and now I feel its my duty to pay it forward to our youth who are looking for options.

I plan on impacting the community by providing providing workshops on Managing Money. Now days managing your money correctly starts young, the older you become the worse your debt may grow. Many people lose their homes, children, jeopardize their college education and many other valuable assets because they are not aware of how to manage their money! Money is apart of everyone's life, and what you do with it makes a big impact on your life. This workshop will not just be for adults but the younger crowd also.

I will impact my community by keeping hope the dream of a united people alive. On my campus we are reaching out to high school students ,through mentoring programs to encourage them to continue on to post-secondary education. However, today I reached out along with other fellow students to collect donations for the Haitian victims of the Earthquake because as united people we must help one another when called upon. This vision of unity will remain in my view even after Martin Luther King Day because we are all brothers and sisters 365 days of the year!!! Happy Martin Luther King Day!

*****o, my name is Sasha. Currently I plan on changing my community by getting the teens of this modern day more involved. Change doesn't occur unless your willing to welcome it into your life. Though one person can leave an impact on your life; it takes a community to raise a child. It will take a community and a group of willing people to make a change. Other ideas include providing toys for the younger and adolescent kids that are living in shelters. My school and I have started to make a difference in lives of many kids but isn't near finish.

I manage a one person library in a poor rural area. I'm using my own money to cover postage costs so younger patrons can have access to books about all cultures, religions and sexual orientation, something thyu wouldn't otherwise have access to.
