Celebrity fashion lines that work
Celebrities continue to put their names on everything from perfume and shoe lines to hip hop clothes and accessories. Although some bigwigs in the entertainment industry have found more hardship than profit in their endeavors, a few have been able to transition from the stage to the fashion industry with ease. TheCelebrityCafe.com recently dished out who's on top in terms of making it in both entertainment and fashion.
According to the website, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham makes the list at number 10 for her denim line launched back in 2007. However, more recently Mrs. Beckham has been showing off her real talent for creating elegant and wearable women's clothes for A-list celebrities like Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Eva Longoria.
"She’s made the transition from people thinking of her celebrity to thinking of her design house," Kristian Laliberte, senior editor of the fashion website Refinery29, told ABC News. "She's getting judged on the actual clothing, which I think is good for her."
Jay-Z was one of the first rappers to transition into the fashion world with his brand Rocawear debuting back in 1995, according to TheCelebrityCafe.com. Since then, the mogul has expanded his urban clothes to women and children, while staying true to his hip hop roots.
Extra TV reports the rapper recently starred in the first commercial for the brand. During the 30 second ad, Jay speaks about how his life in New York City helped shape who he is today.
"Wherever you grow up, that's your root, right?" Jay-Z asks in the commercial, according to the news source. "My goal was to have one gold album, and that was it, and then it became, 'I want to show that artists can extend to the executive ranks.'"
Jay's better half, Beyonce, has also been making a name for herself in the fashion world - though she's had a bit of help. TheCelebrityCafe.com reports Beyonce's mom, Tina Knowles, had been making the ladies of Destiny's Child their award show outfits and stage costumes for years before Bey decided to back her mom with a high-end fashion line called House of Dereon in 2004.
Grazia Daily reports the fashion label recently made the jump to the U.K., as the mother-daughter design duo debuted their fashion line in London in September, 2011.
Other celebrities who made the leap from the fab life to the fashion life include Nicole Richie, who has four different fashion lines, Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. and Justin Timberlake's William Rast.
