Celebrity scents are so in right now
It may seem like Nicki Minaj already has quite a full plate. The rapper is currently acting as the new face of Pepsi Co.'s drink "Pop" and she also recently penned a deal to star in new ads for Adidas. Oh yeah, and she recently released her "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" LP.
BET reports the mega mogul is now set to release her first fragrance. Although this will be her first scent, Minaj has already been making a name for herself in the makeup and accessories world via deals with OPI and MAC. Minaj calls her newest venture another way to express herself to the world.
"I have always been a huge fan of great fragrances, this is yet another extension of my creative expression and I can't wait to share it with the world," said Minaj on her desire to create a personal fragrance. "I designed this scent and bottle with my Barbz [what Minaj calls her fans] in mind, I know they will love it!"
New York Daily News reports Minaj has teamed up with the company behind Justin Bieber's perfume line "Someday." Bieber's fragrance, the first for the company Give Back Brands, earned more than $3 million in the first three weeks of being launched. Someday broke all historic retail records in the celebrity fragrance category, according to the source.
According to Forbes Magazine, celebrity scents, as well as celebrity clothing lines like Rocawear, continue to be popular because fans want to smell and dress like the biggest names in entertainment.
"The fact that people are buying a fragrance without even smelling it says there's a connection with the celebrity," Virginia Lee, the senior research analyst for Euromonitor International, told the magazine.
Lee reports everyone from Mary J. Blige and Beyonce to Derek Jeter and Rihanna have their names on signature scents.
