D'Angelo is back in business
Most ladies remember D'Angelo best for well, not wearing hip hop clothes - or any clothes in his smash video "Untitled (How Does it Feel?)" back in 2000. Since then, his life has been a challenge - he battled years of addiction, isolation and a near-fatal car crash in 2005. GQ Magazine recently spoke with the soulful crooner about his new music and how he's feeling better than ever.
According to the source, D'Angelo is finally ready to make music again, a feeling that he hadn't sensed for quite some time. Now, he's excited and amped up to bring some soul back to the music of 2012.
"There's forces that are going on that I don't think a lot of [expletive] that make music today are aware of," D'Angelo told the publication. "It's deep. I've felt it. I've felt other forces pulling at me.… This is a very powerful medium that we are involved in. I learned at an early age that what we were doing in the choir was just as important as the preacher. It was a ministry in itself. We could stir the pot, you know? The stage is our pulpit, and you can use all of the energy and that music and the lights and the colors and the sound. But you know, you’ve got to be careful."
The Associated Press reports D'Angelo hasn't set a date or given much information out about his upcoming album, but he has committed to hitting the stage for the first time in almost 10 years this summer.
The R&B crooner is set to perform at the 2012 Essence Music Festival taking place from July 6 to July 8 in New Orleans. Other performers at the festival include Trey Songz and Mary J. Blige.
