Halloween is a week away and for many people, that means it's the time of year to get scared and to dress up for parties. BET reports the latest installment of the scary franchise, "Paranormal Activity," took the top spot at the box office last weekend, beating out Ben Affleck's thriller "Argo" and Tyler Perry's new flick "Alex Cross."

New York Times movie critic Andy Webster reports "Paranormal Acitivty 4" "will please fans," or people who love being scared. Even if you don't make it to theaters, here are some of the best scary movies to watch at home during this eerie time of year.

Boston.com recently released its Top 50 Scariest Movies of All Time list and fans of screaming or potentially having a heart attack should take notice. Coming in at number 46 is "Dawn of the Dead." The website reports some of the scariest scenes happen at the beginning of the film, so hold on tight from the get-go. The indie-thriller "Session 9" took the number 41 spot. This flick is sure to get your heart racing as this film takes place in an abandoned insane asylum and is reportedly based on real facts. Other movies to watch this Halloween include "Silence of the Lambs," (number 14), "Rec," (number 12), "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (the original, number 8) and "The Thing," (number 1).
