Drake aims to return to his acting roots
It's hard to think of Drake as anything other than a hip hop star, but the Canadian rapper actually left acting to pursue his music career. Once his stint on the show "Degrassi" was over, rapping took over - but he's looking to return to his roots.
The new 7-minute music video for "Hold On We're Going Home" is definite proof. According to Complex magazine, Drizzy recruited Bill Pope, director of photography on "The Matrix" to head the project, and looked at old Michael Jackson videos, like his film "Moonwalker," for inspiration.
Set in 1985 Miami, the video opens on Drake kicking it with a mafia crew and getting a phone call that his girlfriend is being held hostage. There are plenty of theatrics as he attempts to save her, including a shootout that MTV News likened to something out of "Bad Boys."
Drake isn't being specific about his acting plans, but he did tell MTV that he's eager to get into both movies and TV.
"I'm excited about that," he said.
