Dwyane Wade designing shoe line
Dwyane Wade may still be relishing in his NBA Championship title, but the superstar isn't slowing down anytime soon. He proved it recently by announcing he will be creating a new shoe line alongside Chinese brand Li-Ning. BET reports the line will have Wade's stamp of approval on all ends - ranging from the design process to the endorsers and more.
The news comes just as Wade's contract with Nike ended. The basketball star opened up about his decision to branch out during a recent press conference, the Miami Herald reports.
"I don't look at it as a risk at all. I weighed the pros and cons and there were two cons to me. One was I've never played in a sneaker outside the Nike umbrella and the second one was the cool factor in The States," Wade told crowds during the press conference. "I have so much creative control, and it's going to evolve as the season goes on. What I'm wearing now will be different from what I wear when the season starts. It's just cool to be able to have a lot of input."
The first shoe in his new line is translated as "The Ways of Dwyane Wade" and is an "ode to his life." The soles of the shoes have the initials of Wade's loved ones on them including his children and his girlfriend, Gabrielle Union, the publication reports. The sneakers also have a Bible verse embroidered in them that is meant to honor his mother.
