Frank Ocean discusses sexuality

Rapper Frank Ocean is making a name for himself within the R&B world for his smooth lyrics and his unique hip hop clothes. The star recently opened up about a more personal aspect of his life - falling in love for the first time with a man.

BET reports Ocean wrote an open letter on his Tumblr page in which he told the story of falling in love when he was younger. The letter was shocking for some, who previously knew little about the artist, but since releasing it, many fans and big name musicians have offered their support, no matter what his sexuality may be.

Stars like Solange Knowles, Tyler the Creator, Stephen Hill, Russell Simmons, Beyonce and 50 Cent all took to their Twitter or personal websites to show some love for Ocean for his honesty.

Tyler The Creator, who has worked with Ocean, seemed to have known about his sexual orientation before Ocean went public. He wrote on his Twitter, "My Big Brother Finally [expletive] Did That. Proud Of That [expletive] Cause I Know That [expletive] Is Difficult Or Whatever."

Although Ocean made reference to falling in love with a man, in a recent interview with the Guardian, he was less open about his comments, choosing to stay a bit secretive on his personal matters. However, he is proud of what he did even though he's uncertain of whether or not there will be any backlash because of it.

"I won't touch on risky, because that's subjective," Ocean said about reportedly coming out as a gay man. "People are just afraid of things too much. Afraid of things that don't necessarily merit fear. Me putting Nostalgia [his new album] out … what's physically going to happen? Me saying what I said on my Tumblr last week? Sure, evil exists, extremism exists. Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I'm black. They could do the same just because I'm American. Do you just not go outside your house? Do you not drive your car because of the statistics? How else are you limiting your life for fear?"

Ocean may have just recently sent the letter out on Tumblr, but he told the news outlet he actually wrote it back in December of 2011. He added it's taken him until now to be able to prepare for the questions fans and critics would have. He's now ready for anything.

Fans who want to dress like Ocean can do so by purchasing the Coogi Five Star Rugby Knit Polo.
