Gabby Douglas speaks out to haters

Olympic star Gabby Douglas should be on cloud nine, instead the 16-year-old phenom is having to address critics of her hair. BET reports many fans of the Olympic Games have been taking to their Twitter accounts to discuss Douglas, however many of the messages are not praising the young athlete for winning gold medals, but rather criticizing the state of her hair.

Tweets like "In Olympic news, why hasn't anyone tried to fix Gabby Douglas' hair?" and "On another note, Gabby Douglas gotta do something with this hair! these clips and this brown gel residue ain't it!" spread like wildfire on the social media site.

Douglas had kept quiet on the matter (probably because she was training for more events), however she recently addressed the haters and proved she's meant to be in the spotlight by handling herself like a true champion.

"I don't know where this is coming from. What's wrong with my hair?" said Douglas, the first U.S. gymnast to win gold in team and all-around competition, according to The Huffington Post. "I'm like, 'I just made history and people are focused on my hair?' It can be bald or short, it doesn't matter about (my) hair."

Douglas went on in her post declaring she will continue to wear her hair in the same fashion during her remaining events, urging critics to get used to it and to instead pay attention to all the hard work she and the other competitors have put in to make it to the Olympics.

"I'm going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it," Douglas said in a statement. "I don't think people should be worried about that. We're all champions and we're all winners. I just say that it's kind of, a stupid and crazy thought to think about my hair."

Fans of the superstar can dress just like her by purchasing the Apple Bottoms Tube Maxi Dress Converted to Skirt.
