Gabrielle Union puts the past behind her
Gabrielle Union broke onto the scene years ago as a rival cheerleader in cult classic "Bring it On." Since her rise to fame, the starlet has seen ups and downs in her career and personal life. BET reports Union recently opened up to a reporter during Radio One Fest in Miami last week and broke her silence on the rumors she is a homewrecker.
Union has been called the horrible name in wake of her blossoming relationship with Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade three years ago. It was reported the "Think Like a Man" star was the reason behind Wade's split from then-wife Siohvaughn Funches. Despite the accusations ruining her good name, Union took the high road and kept silent on the matters when asked about the issue in the press - until now.
"It's hard because aside from loving him, I wanna protect myself," Union told a reporter during the event, BET reports. "I've built my life, I've built my own brand, I've built my own career. And my career took a hit from that madness because some people just refuse to see the truth even when it's presented to them time and time again." I pay for my family, I pay for my momma and my daddy and my sisters and her family. D [Dwyane] doesn't write those checks, I do, so when something is starting to affect how I make a living, no, no, no baby."
Union added she kept her mouth shut for so long for a variety of reasons, with the main being trying to protect Wade's two young sons from his marriage to Funches.
"Luckily by doing the right thing and putting the children first, it worked out that I was able to save myself."
Her patience paid off, as Wade was recently on Oprah's "Next Chapter" and had nothing but kind words to say for his longtime love who looks fabulous in gowns and women's urban clothes alike.
"She makes my eyes sparkle," Wade told Oprah on the show, according to Oprah.com. "We're a family, and we're growing as a family every day. And I think that's the great thing about it. We have so much more room to improve as a family and it's awesome."
Now that the divorce drama is behind her (she hopes for good) she's ready to get back to doing what she does best - act. Being in the smash hit "Think Like a Man" was certainly a good way to get her back in the limelight for something positive.
