In Honor of Black History Month: Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. (Born Michael King, 1929-1968)

Civil Rights Activist / American Pastor / Humanitarian

Martin Luther King, Jr. is best known for his role in the Civil Rights movement using non-violent protests and tactics to advance the cause.  The "I Have a Dream" speech is also a top contender in what comes to mind when we think of him.  It was this very speech, delivered on the 28th of August in 1963, that propelled him into the spotlight as one of the greatest 9and most influential) speakers in American history. He even received the Nobel peace prize in 1964 for his tremendous efforts and success in the struggle against racial inequality through non-violence. His tragic (and ironically violent) death by assassination in 1968 was the catalyst for angry riots around the country.  Despite this, he will live on forever in the hearts of those who could personally relate; those he was speaking to; and those who would eventually come to understand what he was all about.

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
