Jay-Z stars in Rocawear commercial
Jay-Z is going back to his roots in the new commercial ad for his Rocawear clothing company. Billboard reports that Jay stars in the new commercial titled "Marcy to Barclays," which aired for the first time on April 2 on Jay's official website, Life and Times.
In the 30-second video, images of the New York area Jay grew up in are represented, mixed in with with pieces from the new collection. Jay is talking during the video, discussing growing up in New York and making it there too.
"Wherever you grow up, it's your root, right?" Jay says during the commercial, he then goes on to discuss how his plan for success grew. "My goal was to have one gold album, and that was it. And then it became, 'I want to show that artists can ascend to the executive ranks.'"
MTV.com reports that this is the first TV commercial Rocawear has put out to promote its hip hop clothes. Adding that 2012 has already been one of the best for Jay-Z as he recently performed back-to-back sold-out charity shows at the famed Carnegie Hall and welcomed his first child with wife, Beyonce.
"Any time I get a chance to expand and broaden the reach of hip-hop is a great thing for me on a personal level," Jay told MTV after announcing he would be playing at Carnegie Hall.
