Ladies rock Elle's Women in Music issue
Female rapper Azealia Banks is certainly getting her name, her music and her fashion sense out there. Most recently, the young singer/rapper made it into Elle's Women in Music 2012 issue alongside Santigold, Lana Del Rey and the gorgeous Rihanna, BET reports.
According to the news outlet, the Harlem-born rapper talked to the fashion experts about everything from her hit song "212" that she released on YouTube last year and on her favorite hip hop clothes and fashion.
ELLE Magazine met up with the rapper in London where she discussed her rise to the top and her outlandish attitude.
"'212' is arrogant, and fashion is arrogant," Banks told the magazine. "Selling beauty means convincing people that you have something they want."
Also making the cut in the issue is 35-year-old singer/rapper Santigold, best known for her unique sound and fashion-forward women's urban clothes. It's been four years since her last LP, and over the course of the break she has battled record labels and had an eye opening experience while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Santigold credits her past struggles with helping her realize she wanted to make a record that inspires people to fight for what they believe in and to be themselves.
"'[Riot Song]' is to those people who don't give up and who have the courage to think for themselves and, like me, create their own reality," Santigold told the magazine on her new sound.
