Lil Wayne pledges to raise $200,000 to help youths
Before Lil Wayne was one of the most successful rappers in the industry, he was a high school dropout. Growing up in Hollygrove, a mostly impoverished part of New Orleans, he didn't always have what he needed - let alone wanted - to follow his dreams.
Now, Crowdfund Insider reports that he has pledged his support for Motivational Edge, a nonprofit with the mission of encouraging South Floridian youths to perform well academically. The campaign that he and ME started Oct. 16 on Indiegogo is looking to raise $200,000 by Dec. 1 to fund a chapter in Phoenix, Ariz. That program will serve as many as 400 young people.
Already, Wayne has pledged $30,000 to the campaign to get it started.
"I stand by the mission of The Motivational Edge." he said, as quoted by XXL magazine. "Not just because I support these kids but because I was one."
