Mary J. Blige is comfortable in her skin
Mary J. Blige has been in the R&B game for decades and she's always been a woman young ladies could look up to. Essence Magazine recently put Blige where she belongs - on the cover of the magazine - because of her ability to overcome hardships and continued success. This is the 12th time the crooner has been on the cover.
According to the news outlet, Blige discussed everything from finding her inner beauty to her favorite designers and her love of hip hop clothes. Blige admitted that it took her a long time to feel pretty in her own skin.
"I was never really able to look at myself in the mirror until I began to hear God telling me I was beautiful," Blige said in the interview. "Suddenly, other people started telling me I was beautiful, too, because I had started believing it."
Blige also opened up more about her past problems with alcohol addiction. She got candid recently while appearing on "The Wendy Williams Show." Blige told Williams alcohol is something she no longer craves.
"No, not at all," Blige told Williams when asked if it was hard for her to stay sober, BET reports. "I don't need alcohol to get me out of a depression or get me out of a bad moment, but I have occasional drinks with my friends."
Fans of the nine-time Grammy winner can see Blige hit the stage this summer. Essence reports the soulful crooner will be a headliner at the 2012 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans from July 5 through 8. Other performers at the event include D'Angelo, Aretha Franklin, Keyshia Cole and Trey Songz.
Fans of Blige who want to show off their curves like the diva should purchase the Baby Phat Wrap Top Jumpsuit to rock women's urban clothes right.
