Michael Jordan turns 50
NBA legend Michael Jordan will soon be celebrating a milestone birthday. The basketball phenom is turning the big 5-0 on February 17, the same day as the NBA All Star game, a matchup Jordan is quite familiar with.Â
Jordan is pulling out all the stops for his upcoming birthday, and he's making sure to do it in style, while having access to the big game. According to CultureMap Houston, Jordan has rented out the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, for the fete, the same city in which the All Star game is being played.Â
Sources told CultureMap that Jordan had multiple local realtors scout out locations for 100 guests before ultimately selecting the MFAH. It's also been reported that City Kitchen Catering will be creating a meal for the guests. Jordan is not being stingy for his event - it takes a $100,000 donation rent out the MFAH - not to mention the cost of the food, parking and performers set to hit the stage to honor him.Â
The fact that Jordan decided to throw a 50th birthday bash in Houston is no coincidence - he's expected to sit court side for the All Star game taking place at the Toyota Center in the same city. Even though the All Star game is getting a lot of press, some sports stations like ESPNÂ are also devoting air time to the legendary basketball star.Â
ESPN has created a multiplatform initiative to showcase Jordan's outstanding career, NBC Chicago reports. Highlights of the week-long platform include SportsCenter's Top 50 Jordan highlights, which allows fans to help choose the top 10.
Many people within the NBA, like Commissioner David Stern, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant, will also share their favorite memories of Jordan on ESPN.
