Pharrell asked to guest coach on 'The Voice'

Rapper Pharrell Williams is no stranger to cranking out hits - as a solo artist, with his group The Neptunes and behind the scenes as a producer for a variety of other talented musicians. E! Online is now reporting the crooner-turned-fashion designer-turned-author is ready to take on an entirely new role - coach.

According to the news source, Williams has been recruited to join the cast of "The Voice" by Usher. Usher will be replacing coach Cee Lo Green on the upcoming season, while singer Shakira will take Christina Aguilera's seat. Usher has asked Williams to step in as a guest coach during the"battle rounds" of the show, when contestants face off against each other to stay in the competition. Usher opened up about why he asked Williams to step in during this phase of the show.

"A master of his craft, an artist, an innovator. Who better to have on my team than Pharrell?" Usher said in a statement. "His ability to nurture and develop talent is invaluable and will truly benefit each and everyone on my team."

Usher is replacing Green so he is able to perform a series of shows in Las Vegas as well as potentially star in a new sitcom based loosely on his life, Hip Hop Wired reports. Aguilera left the show in order to to release her seventh album, "Lotus."

Fans of the new judges or the show itself, can tune into NBC on March 25 to check out the fresh talent.

Do you watch "The Voice?" Do you think Usher will be a good replacement for Cee Lo? Do you think Williams will be an asset to Usher's team?
