Rappers show off their comedic chops
Some of the hottest hip hop stars are showing that their talent goes a lot further than rhyming.
According to The Hollywood Press, Kid Cudi has already booked a guest appearance as the ex-con Dustin Whiteman in the new comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." The series comes from "Parks and Recreation" duo Mike Schur and Dan Goor, and has enlisted some other big names, including Saturday Night Live's Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen. The producers described the show, which is about an eccentric group of New York detectives, as a fusion of "Barney Miller" and "The Wire." The Hollywood Press noted that this isn't Cudi's first time on the small screen, though - he's appeared in both "The Cleveland Show" and "How to Make It in America."
Cudi's not the only funnyman in the hip hop industry. BET.com reported that DMX will be appearing as himself in a major motion picture with comedian Chris Rock. His publicist, Domenick Nati, told the news source that the two performers had a good on-screen chemistry. DMX has already appeared with Jet Li and Aaliyah in "Romeo Must Die" and the cult classic "Belly." According to Nati, DMX will likely be taking on more acting gigs in the future.
