Rihanna Makes the Switch from Def Jam Records to Roc Nation
In the past nine years, Rihanna has ruled the hip hop scene with seven hit albums and cameos in songs by just about every major rapper.
The Barbados native was signed to Def Jam records in 2005 by Jay Z when he was the label's president. Her first hit "Pon De Replay" was released the same year and since then she has topped the charts with songs such as "We Found Love" in 2012 and "Live Your Life" with rapper T.I. in 2008. Rihanna and Jay have collaborated on several songs including the Grammy winning tunes "Umbrella" and "Run This Town".
It appears Rihanna is returning to her roots with Jay Z as she departs from Def Jam Records. Though she has always been managed by Roc Nation, all of her albums have been released by Def Jam.
According to XXL Mag, both labels have updated their websites accordingly. Rocnation.com announced that RiRi has evolved from a managed artist to an official label asset. Def Jam moved Rihanna to the legacy section of its web page.
Do you think this was a smart career move for the hip hop songstress?
