Solange talks fashion icons and hair
Solange Knowles may have the same last name as famous older sister Beyonce, but aside from being family, these ladies are drastically different. Bey is one of the world's biggest stars, while Solange prefers to show off her true colors by way of her bold hip hop clothes and her new career as a DJ.
BET reports the fashion icon, known for wearing her dark locks in natural curls, expressed her inner glamour diva while posing for the French edition of Glamour Magazine. In the article, Knowles discusses her DJ aspirations - stage name SolAngel, as well as her family and her love of women's urban clothes.
"My style is very eclectic as I like to take risks, but I always cling to glamorous touches and classic details. I'm not necessarily inspired by magazines or fashion," Knowles told the publication, according to BET. "I surf a lot of blogs and find it cool to see real style from real people. My travels also influence me. I always take lots of pictures, and then inject all those inspirations into my wardrobe, my home décor, or my makeup. And we can't forget the icons: Diana Ross, Erykah Badu, Bjork and Lauryn Hill."
Although her fashion sense may be a bit all over the place, her staple look - her natural curls - have gotten her some press as of late, both good and bad. BET reports Knowles has been getting some heat for her over-the-top hair after posting photos to her Instagram account.
After the comments started to get out of hand, Knowles took to her Twitter page to defend her style to the haters.
"I've never painted myself as a team natural vice president. I don't know the lingo and I don't sleep with a satin cap...However, I did notice when I picked out my hair, I kept seeing feedback about needing a "twist out," Knowles wrote on Twitter. "Connnnfesssioonnn: I HATE twist outs. Correction, I hate the way they look on me. SO I end up always picking them/steaming them out."
