Stars step out for Golden Globes

Many football fans might have been pumped to see their favorite teams move on to the conference championships on Sunday, but others might have been more excited to see the slew of stars walk the red carpet at this year's Golden Globes. The January 13 show had a lot of surprises-Ben Affleck took home the Best Director award for "Argo​," while"Django Unchained" won for Best Screenplay, BET reports.

"Django" director Quentin Tarantino admitted he was shocked when they called his name for the honor.

"Wow, I wasn't expecting this, I'm happy to be surprised," he said.

Actor Don Cheadle was also honored during the event. He took home the award for Best Actor in a TV Comedy Series for his role on "House of Lies." Cheadle beat out Alex Baldwin and Louis C.K. for the title.

CNN reports many newcomers including Jessica Chastain​and Jennifer Lawrence earned praise for their work. Chastain​won an award in the Best Performance by an Actress in A Motion Picture - Drama for her part in "Zero Dark Thirty," while Lawrence took home a statue in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in 'Silver Linings Playbook."
