Top Movie Releases in June!

June 1, 2009NewsComments

TvN3rd here, back with your June Movie Preview as promised. I think we got off to a great start with the May releases. Let's hope June can keep up. Here are your previews:

JUNE Releases:

June 5th- Land of the Lost- Starring Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, and Anna Friel

This movie was adapted from the 70's sci-fi television show of the same name. The premise of the film is slightly different from the show; instead of a dad with two kids, it's a scientist (played by Ferrell), his assistant (Anna Friel) and his not so bright survivalist (McBride), who get sucked into a space-time vortex. And you can pretty much guess that chaos and mayhem start from there. It does look funny and with two comedic geniuses in Ferrell and McBride it's sure to generate enough laughter and money at the box office. I think it might just be worth a shot.

June 5th - The Hangover- Starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis
This is your classic morning after film situation. It takes place the day after a Las Vegas bachelor party, three friends wake up trashed in a hotel suite with no memory of what happened to them or why they're bruised, missing a tooth and half-naked. They have to deal with trying to piece together what happened the night before, all while trying to figure out why there's a baby in the suite with them, how'd they manage to get a tiger in the room as well, and then they have to deal with that one little detail of the missing groom to be. FYI there's even a cameo of former boxing champ Mike Tyson. I have to admit that when I first saw the movie poster I was like "What's that about?", but after seeing the trailer I have to say this might just be the funniest movie all summer.

June 12th - The Taking of Pelham 123- Starring Denzel Washington, John Travolta and James Gandolfini

In this film Travolta plays a hostage-taking bad guy that paralyzes the city's subway system by taking a Pelham bound train and its passengers prisoner. Travolta's character has just been released from jail and his life is practically ruined, this serves as the motive for the hostage-taking and for his plan to seek revenge on New York City. Washington plays the humble MTA worker who just happens to be at the control center directing trains and finds himself tangled up in Travolta's plan of revenge. Looks like an interesting remake of the original 1974 film, and with two GIANT box office money makers with their names above the title, this is sure to be a hit opening weekend.

June 12th - Imagine That- Starring Eddie Murphy, Yara Shahidi, and Thomas Hayden Church
Eddie Murphy is back in another kiddie movie. This time he plays a finance executive whose job isn't doing so well until he begins to see things through his daughter's imaginative eyes and starts taking advice from her imaginary friends from her fantasy world. He begins to get in touch with his inner child, all while improving his relationship with his daughter. All in all this is cute movie to take the kids to that weekend.

June 19th- The Proposal- Starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds
In this movie Bullock plays an evil Canadian boss who has to talk her U.S. citizen assistant to marry her so she can stay in the country. There lies the premise of the movie, she has to deal with Reynolds' outspoken grandmother (played by Betty White) and the rest of his family, who are all surprised that Reynolds even had a girlfriend let alone getting married the same weekend as his grandmother's 90th birthday. As with all romantic comedies, what starts out as an agreement/contract, the main characters wind up really falling in love with each other. Even though that formula is old, it almost always works and the journey from friends to lovers is always crazy enough for some laughs.

June 24th - Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen- Starring Shia Lebouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson
The highly anticipated sequel to 2007 smash hit, will undoubtedly be the highest earning movie of the month. In the film high school dork Sam Witwicky is now off to college, he's still with mega-hot girlfriend Mikaela(played by Fox), but once at college a piece of the ALL-SPARK still in Sam's possession seems to make Sam start seeing and drawing symbols. This film has more explosions than the first, and it introduces us to a host of new Autobots and Decepticons, even one whose name is the title, Fallen. I know I will be first in line that day, to watch in all its sexiness, in IMAX baby!!

June 26th- Year One- Starring Jack Black, Michael Cera and Oliver Platt

The movie takes place in the Stone Age, where a tribe exiles Jack Black's character for eating forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. Cera's character, after being dismissed by the girl he likes, decides to join Black. They embark on a journey where along the way they see that several members of their original tribe including Cera's love interest have now been captured and enslaved. They must help free them and of course they stop at nothing to do so, which is where the comedy lies. Looks like a funny film your sure to enjoy when Transformers is sold out. Lol.
