Tyra Banks opens up about having curves
The gorgeous Tyra Banks surprised everyone recently when she fired the entire judging panel of her hit show "America's Next Top Model," and she recently discussed the reason behind the changes. The Daily Beast reports the mega model also wrote an open letter to other models and women with body image issues to declare that everyone is beautiful in their own way.
"If I was just starting to model at age 17 in 2012, I could not have had the career that I did. I would've been considered too heavy," Banks wrote on The Daily Beast website. "In my time, the average model's size was a four or six. Today you are expected to be a size zero. When I started out, I didn't know such a size even existed."
According to the source, the message comes out just as the editors of Vogue magazine declared they would no longer be using models in their 19 international editions who "appear to have an eating disorder."
Banks went on to discuss a time in her career when she started to develop curves and her agent sent her mother a list of designers who would not use her in fashion shows anymore due to her changing body. Banks admitted she was destroyed by these hurtful comments, but her mother was there to empower her, rather than bring her down.
"As my mom wiped the tears from my face, she said, 'Tyra, you know what we're going to do about this? We're going to go eat pizza,'" Banks wrote in the letter on the website. "We sat in a tiny pizzeria in Milan and strategized about how to turn my curves into a curveball. In a way, it was my decision not to starve myself that turned me into a supermodel, and later on, a businesswoman."
Banks admits that story has greatly affected her life today and how she mentors the young ladies on her reality TV show.
BET reports there will be some big changes on the hit TV show this season, as Banks recently fired her entire panel of experts including Jay Manuel, J. Alexander and Nigel Barker.
This season, fans of the show that teaches aspiring models how to rock hip hop clothes and high fashions will get to know new judges. Banks has brought on Rob Evans, an international male model, Kelly Cutrone, a famed fashion publicist and Johnny Wujek, a celebrity stylist.
