Vibe goes big with its 20th anniversary
Vibe magazine is celebrating an impressive milestone this year, making it 20 years in the publication industry. In honor of this accomplishment, Vibe is releasing a triple cover 20th anniversary issue. The special edition will feature Janelle Monae with Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams with Daft Punk and Nas with J. Cole.
The special Nas and J. Cole cover has fans thinking a collaboration between the two gifted artists could be in the works. While both rappers are up for the challenge, they both admit they'll work hard to try and outshine one another - a rivalry that they believe belongs in hip hop.
"If me and Cole are on a track, they gonna talk about whose verse is the ill-est," Nas told the news source. "Our boys are gon' be like, 'Yo, you gotta smoke him on that' [sic]. That's what rap is all about. That's how it should always be."
On the same note, Cole is quick to add that despite trying his best on every track, sometimes another MCâ's verse is going to be better, and that's OK. Most recently, Cole has been making the rounds on late night TV. According to Rolling Stone, the rapper killed it on "Conan" recently when he performed his latest track, "Crooked Smile" off of "Born Sinner."
