Fefe Dobson Finds Strength in Mariah Carey

By Souleo. Fefe Dobson is known for being a bold, loud and outspoken rocker but when it came to the challenges of being biracial she found strength in none other than: Mariah Carey.

"We are both biracial and we talked about that in some way or another.  My mom's White and my dad is Black.  My mom was in my life and my dad wasn't.  So I kind of didn't know that side and now I know it and embrace it.  Mariah helped because she was supportive and giving me sweet words.  I love her because she's been through so much and has kept going."

Good for you, Fefe!  We should all embrace every facet of who we are!

Fefe's love for Mariah runs so deep that she listens to the diva whenever she is down.

"I have to say when I'm sad I listen to every single Mariah Carey record.  I have her whole catalog in my collection."

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?  How cool would it be to have Fefe cover a Mariah song?  I suggest she deliver a rock take on "All I Want for Christmas Is You."  We'll have to wait for her next release after, Joy in order to be blessed with such a cover.

Make it happen, Fefe.

Bertell Goes from Homeless to Hollywood

By Souleo. There's a saying: go hard or go home.  It's an old motto that defines the journey of rising R&B artist, Bertell (yes, that's his birth name).  Bertell's path has taken him from being homeless to being the protégé of A-list producer/writer Bryan Michael Cox (Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Usher) and Capitol Records' newest priority.  Bertell spoke with JimmyJazz to give us the exclusive rundown on his story of beating the odds.

Unlike many Bertell's experience with homelessness was a choice; one borne out of a need to prove to himself that he could succeed doing things the right way.

"It was pretty much by choice.  I was in a situation where I was kind of out in the streets doing things the wrong way.  I cut loose from everything wrong that was getting the money for me.  I figured out that it ain't that easy to get money the right way.  When I figured that out I didn't want to run back to my mother's house.  I didn't want to be a burden on anybody," he said.

BERTELL

While he lived out of his car and slept wherever he could lay his head, Bertell soon discovered that to survive he would have to go hard and that's when he developed his grind.

"I was a real hustler.  I would sell you some socks.  I would sell you a t-shirt.  My mother always used to tell me 'You don't have no kids and no responsibility so you don't have no excuse.'  So for me I always used to wake up like there was no excuse so I gotta figure it out," he said.

Bertell's hustling soon paid off resulting in heavy mixtape sales and a chance meeting with Bryan Michael Cox.  Together the two are working on the final touches to Bertell's forthcoming album, Going Hard.  As the title suggests no matter what he is singing about, it's the message of perseverance that stays with Bertell the most from his homeless experience.

"I found out that I was driven and that I wasn't a quitter. That was the biggest thing I found out about myself.  Anybody that comes to me is going to see the same thing."

The-Dream Brings “Love vs. Money”

April 2, 2009 / Posted in Music
Tags: Kanye West / Love vs. Money / Mariah Carey / R. Kelly / The-Dream

The-Dream sings money can’t solve [a relationship] when love is a problem, in his latest sophomore album “Love vs. Money.”

It makes since why the first track Money Intro makes the sound of dollars bills being produced.  Mr. Radio Killa himself is a money making hit machine—he can’t stop.   His two singles Rockin’ That Sh** and My Love featuring singing songbird Mariah Carey have already blown up Hip-hop, R&B, and Pop radio stations.

The singer-songwriter, and producer theme is centered on the track Love vs. Money, which focuses on a troubled relationship with a girl that the singer loses because another man displays more affection.  The singer is at a lost when she seemed happy with the money given to her.  The saga continues with Part 2, when The-Dream is confused because first she wants money, then asks for love and receives love but ask for more money.

The album has musical influences of R.Kelly which is inspired by the track “Kelly’s 12 Play.”  In between his latest singles, you will hear the up tempo 3rd track “Walkin’ On The Moon,” featuring Kanye West.  Martin Louis The King, Jr. rap session fits perfectly with Dreams vocals.

Favorite tracks include Sweat It Out, Take U Home 2 My Mama, Fancy and Right Side Of My Brain.  The Bonus track, “Let Me See The Booty,” featuring hype man Lil’ Jon, you can find only on the album version.

Money is comfortable but does not include happiness.  Money alone can’t match real love.  If your lover is a heart-breaker, it is best to leave them alone.

“Love vs. Money” is a purchase you will love to hear over and over again.  In stores now.
