I must admit that I didn't watch the Oscars last night but I did check out the pre-shows to see what the stars were wearing. Overall I was tired of all the taffeta, ruffles and ridiculously long trains. Gees, can't anyone resist a trend? Plus few stars dared to experiment and those that did mostly failed. That said, there were some stars that stood out and of course, I had to list those who didn't fare so well. Read below for my picks of the Whammy's (best) and Schammy's (worst) of the Oscars.
Oscar Whammy
Jennifer Lopez

She may not have a label. Her new film, "The Back-Up Plan," may look pretty average. But why focus on the negative when you look this good? Jennifer Lopez in Giorgio Armani Prive is the perfect combination of couture, sexiness and sophistication. Wannabe divas take note.
Gabourey Sidibe

While I may have hoped for something a bit more uhm, interesting ala Queen Latifah's lovely plus red carpet looks, I do give Gabby a pass since she does look exquisite.
Plus her confidence more than makes up for any shortcomings in the dress department.
Queen Latifah

Now this is plus size done right; it fits the curves, is sophisticated and adds a touch of creativity. Gabourey should graduate up to this look. Side note: Yes, we feel like we've seen this dress a thousand times on Queen so this is the last whammy for this look. Change it up next time Queen.
Nicole Richie

It's a mysterious, brooding and oh so fab look! Sure it's a bit too dark for the Oscars but we love it nonetheless as Nicole is giving us that vintage Hollywood '70's look. It's a throwback to a time when the stars actually had some personality on the carpet, could care less about trends and were not afraid to do their own thing.
Sherri Shepherd

Looking good Sherry but, girl is that a corn or bunion on your index toe? Lord, please say it ain't so.
Paula Patton

It's safe but it works. This color radiates on Paula and positively makes her glow along with lovely baby bump. This is maternity fab, done right.
Oscar Schammy
Monique:

Congrats on the Oscar for best supporting actress but I can't let my admiration hide the fact that this look is a letdown. You've been wearing some wonderfully designed looks at all the other award shows leading up to this big moment and you chose this. I can't believe it. It's not hideous but it doesn't scream Oscar winner and that flower has got to go. The only accessory you need from now on is that well-deserved Oscar.
Zoe Saldana:

The artistic side of me wants to love this dress since I always enjoy a good controversial dress on the red carpet to stir up a heated debate. But this is just a mess of immeasurable proportions. It's a little bit of everything and that is not a good thing. I'm glad she took a major risk but being different for the sake of being different just doesn't cut it. Style can never be comprised.
Mariah Carey

Why must you so frequently disappoint on the red carpet? You're either showing too much skin or playing it way too safe and this is a case of the latter in this bland Valentino dress. You simply blend in and we know a true diva like Mariah is not about blending. Now get a new stylist and step up your game.
Zoe Kravitz

What?! Where is the grunge meets Boho meets NYC socialite look Zoe has worked so hard to prefect over the past year or so? This can't be Zoe. Lenny what'd you do with our Zoe?! This girl here looks too, too, clean. But really, I expected a whole lot more from this potential fashion plate. Just 'cause it's the Oscars doesn't mean you have to go rid yourself of personality.
Anthony Mackie

Clean cut and safe. A little too safe. You're part of young Hollywood now add some personality to your style to really stand out.
Tyler Perry

It's a safe choice and while he does look good in it I'm disappointed. Tyler has so much personality that he needs it to come through in his clothing with some splash of color or a signature accessory. Medea wouldn't be proud.
Anika Noni Rose

The top works wonderfully but there's a little too much cream taffeta which makes it look like Anika is dragging along a curtain on her tail. Damn, I really wanted to love this dress.
