Hey there people, TvN3rD is back! I'm here to help you decide what the must-see movies are and what can wait until DVD. These movies can help you escape all the snow and rain for a couple of hours.
Alice in Wonderland-March 5th - Starring: Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway & Helena Bonham Carter
Here we have the much hyped Tim Burton directed version of the classic tale. The movie takes place years after Alice's first trip to Wonderland, which leaves room for new adventures and twists. She's now a teenager and finds that things in Wonderland aren't quite how she left them, or how she expected them to be. This movie is a shoe-in for #1 at the box office for at least the first two weekends, as well as a major blockbuster hit for Disney and Burton. Plus, I'm sure that offering it in 3-D and in IMAX 3-D doesn't hurt either.
Brooklyn's Finest-March 5th- Starring: Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle & Wesley Snipes
The movie is about three police officers at different points of the spectrum. Veteran officer Eddie Dugan (Gere) is one week away from retirement and collecting his pension. Narcotics officer Sal Procida (Hawke) will do whatever it takes to provide a better life for his wife and seven kids. Clarence "Tango" Butler (Cheadle) has been undercover for so long that his loyalty may not completely be with his fellow officers but instead with Caz (Snipes), Brooklyn's most infamous drug dealer, which he has been sent to bring down. As the movie unravels, the three officers find themselves at the same fatal crime scene. What we see may not be what we expect? Or is it?
Remember Me-March 12th -Starring: Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Chris Cooper & Pierce Brosnan
In his first role outside of the Twilight Saga Franchise, Robert Pattinson tries a romance, sans vampires. He plays Tyler, a rebellious young man with a strained relationship with his father (Brosnan). Just when he figures that no one could even remotely understand what he's going through, he meets Ally (Ravin), through an unusual twist of fate. But as their love grows and things seem great, hidden secrets are revealed. Then the very things that brought them together, threaten to ruin their relationship, and tear them apart.
Green Zone-March 12th -Starring: Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear, Brendan Gleeson & Amy Ryan
Although this movie may be mistaken for the fourth installment of the 'Bourne' franchise, it's not. It is actually based on real-life events that occurred in 2003. But you will most likely see some 'Bourne' type of fighting moves on Damon's part. The movie stars Matt Damon as Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, an Army operative who's in charge of finding WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) in Iraq. But while on the hunt, he uncovers a massive conspiracy.
The Bounty Hunter-March 19th -Starring: Jennifer Aniston & Gerard Butler
Gerard Butler stars as Milo Boyd, a divorced down-on-his-luck bounty hunter, who gets his dream assignment. He has to pick up and bring in his bail-jumping reporter ex-wife Nicole (Aniston). Well as Milo soon realizes, this proves to be not as easy as he thought. Nicole escapes under his watch, runs off to investigate leads on a murder case she's reporting on, and Milo soon discovers he's not they only person after her. Will things work out? I'm sure they will, but it may be worth a couple of laughs.
Repo Men-March 19th -Starring: Jude Law & Forest Whitaker
The movie takes place some time in the future; a future where a new brand of sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs help humans live longer and healthier lives. Remy (Law) and Jake (Whitaker) are hired by The Union, the same company that creates these new organs, to retrieve said body parts from patients who are unable to keep up payments for them. The Union does not take into regard how these people will continue to live once the artificial devices are retrieved. Things seem to be going good until something causes Remy to have one of these organs implanted in his body. Once he can't keep up payments or do his job efficiently, The Union must hire someone to retrieve the organ. Who will they send? Jake? Will they even get the organ back? The movie seems worth a shot, just out of pure curiosity.
The Runaways-March 19th -Starring: Dakota Fanning, Kirsten Stewart &
Scout Taylor-Compton
The movie is about a 70's female rock band called The Runaways, which focuses on the band's vocalist/guitar player Joan Jett (Stewart) and keyboardist/lead vocalist Cherrie Currie (Fanning). It is based on the book written by Currie herself. It details their lives as they navigate through the world of music, record labels, and tours, all while dealing with an abusive manager. It will be interesting to see if Fanning and Stewart's training pays off as they did all their own vocals and instrument playing for their roles.
How to Train Your Dragon-March 26th -Starring the Voices of: Gerard Butler, America Ferrara, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel & Christopher Mintz-Plasse
This animated action comedy takes place in a mythical world of Vikings and Dragons. We follow the adventures of a teenage Viking named Hiccup who really isn't up to par with the rest of the traditional Dragon Slayers. But he soon has his world disrupted when he crosses paths with a dragon who helps open his eyes and those of his fellow Vikings to a different point of view when it comes to Dragons and Slaying.
The Last Song-March 31st - Starring: Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Greg Kinnear, & Kelly Preston
The movie is based on the Nicolas Sparks best-selling novel. It follows rebellious teen Veronica "Ronnie" Miller (Cyrus) and her younger brother as they visit their father (Kinnear) for the first time since the nasty divorce of their parents. The movie deals with first love and the reconnection of parents and children. Everyone will be interested in seeing if Cyrus can hold her own in a project that is minus her Disney Hannah Montana persona. Will she do a good enough job to silence her critics? All I know is I will be in the theater opening weekend to see for myself. Will you?
Well folks that's all for now. Stay tuned for the April movie blog.
