2020 marks the 30th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s fifth signature sneaker, and to celebrate, Jordan Brand released a handful of exciting new colorways. Earlier this year, we received the Air Jordan 5 “Oregon,” “Alternate Bel-Air,” and “Fire Red,” just to name a few. For any normal year, that would be more than enough – but Jordan Brand has a few more tricks up their sleeves.

This month, the brand is scheduled to release a colorway that will make you say, “What the f*ve!?”
The flamboyant Air Jordan 5 “What The” is the latest silhouette to bear the inquisitive moniker. The first sneaker from that lineage was the “What The” Dunk, released by Nike Skateboarding in 2007. The release was effectively a greatest hits compilation, with elements of Nike SB’s most coveted Dunk colorways coming together as one. Since the Dunk, the “What The” motif has graced everything from Nike’s Mercurial soccer cleats, to the Air Jordan 4.
The Air Jordan 5 “What The” follows suit, incorporating design elements from eight of the silhouette’s most popular iterations. This mismatched pair features visible nods to the Air Jordan 5 “Quai 54,” “Bel-Air,” “Green Bean,” “Army Olive,” and “Laser.” But wait, there’s more.
The prominent yellow and red hues come courtesy of the “Tokyo” and “Raging Bull” pairs, which dress the sneaker’s right and left uppers, respectively. The iconic lateral heel panel embroidery is taken from the “Tokyo” and “Shanghai” pairs, as well.
The Air Jordan 5 “What The” is set to release on November 12th on JimmyJazz.com for a retail price of $220. Visit the site early to secure your pair.
The Air Jordan 5 “What The” incorporates a myriad of colors into its design, so matching shouldn’t be a problem. For the first outfit, start with the Jordan Jumpman Air Fleece Pullover Hoodie. This colorful hoodie utilizes black, red, blue, and yellow hues, which accent the sneaker flawlessly. Complete the outfit with the Jordan Jumpman Air Fleece Pants in black. These comfortable cotton joggers compliment the black details of the sneaker, and the tapered ankle cuffs accentuate the sneaker’s shape.
For the second outfit, start again with the Jordan Jumpman Air Fleece Pullover Hoodie – but this time in red. The bright red color perfectly matches the right sneaker, and provides excellent contrast to the left. Finish the outfit with the Jordan Jumpman Air Fleece Pants in red. These jogger pants pair perfectly with the hoodie, and allow the sneakers to do the heavy lifting.
