It wasn’t long ago that you could go into your local Nike outlet or employee store and find a pair of Dunks for well below the suggested retail price. Now, however, you’d be hard pressed to find a pair that isn’t reselling for well over retail. There are a multitude of reasons for this foot-focused paradigm shift, but perhaps the most important is Nike’s willingness to tap into the classic colorways that made the model beloved in the first place.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen the Swoosh reintroduce original Dunk colorways from their iconic Be True to Your School campaign from 1985. We’ve already seen the “Iowa,” “Michigan,” and “Syracuse” Dunks reemerge from the vault recently, and later this month, we’ll be seeing a new Georgetown University–inspired take on the Nike Dunk Low.
I say new because, while Georgetown University’s colors were featured as part of the original Be True to Your School campaign, they didn’t appear on a Dunk – they appeared on a Nike Terminator.
The upcoming “Championship Grey” Nike Dunk Low features colorblocking similar to that of the aforementioned college-color Dunks. The base is done in smooth, “Championship Grey”–colored leather, which dresses the toeboxes, quarter panels, and heels. The base is contrasted with leather overlays done in “Dark Obsidian,” which appear on the sneaker’s mudguards, eyestays, side Swooshes, and heel panels.
From there, rubber midsole units are attached beneath in a clean white tone, and brooding “Dark Obsidian” outsoles are used to complete the design.
The Nike Dunk Low “Championship Grey” is slated to arrive October 15th on JimmyJazz.com and in Jimmy Jazz stores for a retail price of $100.
