Nike’s “Syracuse” Dunk made its return last year in an alternate, low-cut form, leaving fans of the collegiate kicks wondering when (and if) the OG would ever rear its orange head. If you’re a part of that camp, it appears that you’re in luck, as the streetwear Goliath is gearing up for a rerelease of the historic, high-top version later this month.
The Nike Dunk High “Syracuse” made its debut in 1985 as part of Nike’s “Be True to Your School” campaign. The rollout celebrated college basketball’s surge in popularity with team-centric colorways of Nike’s latest, premier basketball sneaker – the Dunk. Twelve of the NCAA’s prime-time teams were given the now-iconic, “College Colors” treatment, including the Jim Boeheim–led Syracuse Orangemen. Fun fact: Nike would actually facilitate the team’s name change to just “Orange” in 2004.
This forthcoming take stays true to the original with a simple, white-and-orange, colorblocked design. Smooth, white leather graces the side panels, toeboxes, tongues, and ankle collars, while bright, “Orange Blaze” overlays engulf the mudguards, eyestays, heel panels, and ankle-collar flaps. The fiery hue also appears on the sneaker’s side Swooshes, sockliners, and laces. The colorway is completed with white, rubber midsoles and “Orange Blaze”–emblazoned rubber outsoles.
The Nike Dunk High “Syracuse” is available 4/27 on JimmyJazz.com for a retail price of $110.
