In the summer of 2017, Nike held its inaugural NY vs. NY basketball tournament. The event saw five teams from five different New York City boroughs – containing some of the area’s most promising high-school prospects – duke it out in the name of streetball supremacy.
The tournament has since become an annual tradition in the city, though due to the ongoing pandemic, last year’s festivities were sadly put on hold. The same looks to be the case this year, but that hasn’t stopped Nike from concocting a special sneaker to commemorate the occasion.
Set to land later this month, the Nike Dunk Low “NY vs. NY” comes clad in “Dutch Green”–colored, smooth leather, which dresses the toeboxes, quarter panels, and heels. The same hue appears on the sneaker’s mesh tongues. That base is contrasted by tumbled leather overlays done in a stark white tone.
The composition is highlighted by bright orange accents which appear throughout. Patent leather side-panel Swooshes take on the hue, as do the Nike-branded tongue tabs and embroidered Nike lettering on the heels. Additionally, the lateral heels feature “NY vs. NY” embroidery done in the citrusy shade. And to further sweeten the pot, Nike quietly added glow-in-the-dark details on the aforementioned embroidery and omnipresent contrast stitching.
The proposition is finished in classic fashion, with rubber midsoles done in white, and icy, translucent rubber outsoles. In a final nod to the annual hoops tournament, popular New York City basketball parks, including Watson, Dyckman, Tri-State, Lincoln Park, West 4th, and Gersh Park, are listed on the outsoles.
The Nike Dunk Low “NY vs. NY” will be available August 31st on JimmyJazz.com for a retail price of $110.
