Nike has stayed at the forefront of athletic footwear innovation for since its inception. What started as a small sporting goods company has since evolved into the largest supplier of sportswear apparel, athletic equipment, accessories, and sneakers in the world.

Initially released in 1997, the Air Max 97 is the first Nike sneaker to feature full-length, visible Air. The silhouette was designed by Christian Tresser, who took inspiration from the ripples that form from displaced water. The sneaker’s iconic first colorway, the “Silver Bullet,” was influenced by Japanese bullet trains, as well as the metal components found on mountain bikes. Since its initial release, the 90’s runner has maintained cultural relevance through its futuristic design and functionality.
